As part of Amazon’s Small Business Academy initiative, the e-commerce company is hosting a free, interactive webinar on self publishing Monday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Pacific.

The webinar “will teach authors how to self-publish eBooks and paperbacks for free with Kindle Direct Publishing,” an Amazon spokesperson wrote in an email. “Some of the topics discussed in the webinar are: editing tools, how to design cover art, the publishing process, and planning for distribution.”

Looking to sell a product instead? The coronavirus forced Amazon’s college courses for sellers online. And now they’re available nationwide. Classes start as early as June 2.

Tricia Gallagher, educational program manager of Kindle Direct Publishing, will lead the live-streamed event. She’ll be joined by staff from the Small Business Academy team as well.

To reserve a spot, register for the event and answer the short questionnaire, which will require your full name and email address. No other prep is needed to attend the webinar, though there will be dedicated time for a Q&A portion with the hosts. So bring any burning questions you may have.

Amazon noted that self publishing is more relevant than ever because of the pandemic.

“We’ve seen consumers switch to online purchases as in-person interactions have declined as a result of the pandemic. The same trends are relevant in the publishing space,” the spokesperson told The Penny Hoarder. “Authors, current and aspiring, who are out of work or have more free time because of the pandemic, have an opportunity to publish their stories and content and make their dreams a reality.”

The event is open to more than authors. Amazon encourages “anyone who would like to learn more about how to share their story and expertise” to join, including teachers, small business support agencies, chambers of commerce and more.

In case you miss the live session on June 1, a recorded version will be available in a list of past webinars. Because you won’t be able to interact with the hosts through the recording, attending the live event is recommended.

Small Business Academy is an initiative that Amazon launched at the end of 2019. It offers businesses a host of free resources related to tools and services provided by Amazon, including webinars, in-person and online workshops led by community colleges, e-commerce guides and more.
