Join me as we navigate the twists and turns of harmonizing our work and personal lives, all while maintaining our sanity and sense of humour.

Before everything else, let’s set the record straight: I’m no expert when it comes to having a perfectly balanced life. If you’ve been a loyal visitor to my blog, you might have noticed my absence for over a year, without a single post to share. It wasn’t because I had nothing to say, but rather because I found myself caught up in the whirlwind of pursuing my master’s degree in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. It was like the tale of the wise man and the boy in the famous book “The Alchemist,” where the boy focused so intently on not spilling a drop of oil from his spoon that he forgot to appreciate the grandeur of the mansion he was meant to explore (if you haven’t read “The Alchemist” yet, my dear friend, now is the perfect time!). Similarly, I became consumed by my studies, (or perhaps, the fear of not completing my thesis) neglecting friends, family, and even losing touch with some of my social skills. Now that I’ve completed my master’s degree, I’ve realized the need for a change. Maybe it will not be about school and work this time, it could be work and life or perhaps work and family.

So, I stand here, promising on my honour, to do better going forward. This time, it’s not just about the demands of school and life; it’s about finding that elusive work-life bliss. It’s about rediscovering the joy of a well-rounded existence and nurturing all aspects of our lives with care.

Finding work-life bliss is a delicate dance, where the rhythm of work and personal life intertwines harmoniously. It’s about recognizing that life is not a race to achieve a perfect balance, but rather a continuous journey of growth and self-discovery. It’s about embracing imperfections, learning from past experiences, and weaving a tapestry of moments that bring us happiness and fulfilment.
Picture this: You’re juggling deadlines, meetings, and a never-ending to-do list that seems to have a life of its own. Meanwhile, your family is eagerly waiting for your attention, and your pet is giving you that “play with me or I’ll knock something over” look. Ah, the joys of modern living! Let’s cook something.

First things first, let’s forget the idea of achieving a perfect work-life balance. Seriously, who came up with that nonsense? Life is like a beautiful symphony, with work and personal life playing different melodies that intertwine harmoniously. It’s all about finding your unique rhythm and embracing the ebb and flow of each day.

Next, it’s time to master the art of setting boundaries. In this digital age, it’s easy to feel like we’re always “on” and never truly disconnected from work. But remember, you’re not a 24/7 robot (unless you are, in which case, kudos to you!). Set clear boundaries between work and personal life, and honour those boundaries like a mother hen protecting their bundles of joy. Give yourself permission to unplug, unwind, and immerse yourself fully in the present moment.

Now, let’s add a pinch of self-care to our work-life bliss concoction. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup (unless you’re pouring invisible happiness elixir, in which case, I’m impressed!). Prioritize self-care activities that nourish your body, mind, and soul. Whether it’s getting a massage, taking a nature walk, or simply savouring a some cold coconut juice or banana smoothie, make self-care a non-negotiable ingredient in your recipe for work-life bliss.

Last but certainly not least, don’t forget to celebrate the small victories along the way. This is another thing i failed to do. At the end, I was too exhausted to even celebrate the bigger victories. Life is made up of tiny moments of triumph, like completing a challenging project or sharing a heartfelt laugh with a loved one.
