On December 28, 2023, Ghanaian musician Solomon Adu Antwi, also known as Yaa Pono, announced the death of his father, Mr. Adu Antwi, via an X (formerly Twitter) post. This unexpected turn of events occurred for the hitmaker of “Obia Wo Ne Master” and his family during their Christmas celebrations. Pono wrote,
”Really hard 4 uptown losing my Dad on a Christmas Day .Jah guide you on your journey,,,Mr Adu Antwi ..,”
“My father is everything to me, and he has bestowed everything he has on me. He picked me up and drove me to where I am now, for which I am grateful.”
In a 2022 interview with Angel FM, he said that his father played a crucial role in his ascent to fame and that he could not have accomplished the feat on his own. Yaa Pono reiterated that his father broke his back to become the responsible man he has been over the years as a parent.
To thank his father for everything that he has done for him, the rap legend released the song “Yegya” from the “Sovran” album, declaring, “If I were my dad, I would not have survived.”
