Henry Asante Twum, the spokesman for the Ghana Football Association has stated that the decision to choose South Africa was based on a thorough consideration of both sporting, weather and financial factors.
Asante Twum revealed that the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with the Technical team and the Sports Ministry, meticulously evaluated various elements before settling on South Africa as the ideal base for the team's preparations.
However, what was expected to be a strategic move turned into a public relations challenge for the football governing body.
The decision has triggered a wave of backlash from fervent Ghanaian football fans, leading to the abrupt scrapping of the South Africa pre-tournament camp.
"The weather there is slightly colder than what we are experiencing here but even here the air we breathe is quite thin up north is worse than what we have in the south," he told Joy Sports.
"So all these factors were considered including financial implications, sporting implications, and administrative implications all these factors were considered before we eventually decided to camp in South Africa," he added.
