SHE RECOVERS: The Next Generation Youth Action Committee
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN FOR SHE RECOVERS: THE NEXT GENERATION YOUTH ACTION COMMITTEE!
About SHE RECOVERS: The Next Generation Youth Action Committee
The SHE RECOVERS (SR): The Next Generation (Next Gen) Youth Action Committee (YAC) is a service and leadership development body of 9 -13 recovering young women and non-binary individuals who identify with women’s communities. This diverse and talented group, composed of youth aged 18-35, will play an essential role in shaping the future of SR: Next Gen’s programs and resources.
As a member of the YAC, you will help more young women to rise rooted in recovery by normalizing the experience. By recovering out loud, sharing your experience, and living your truth, you will smash stigma online and in your local community through your presence, leadership, and volunteer action.
Primary purpose of the YAC
SR: Next Gen YAC members will meet monthly to advise SHE RECOVERS Foundation (SRF) on recovery-focused youth-related topics and issues, plan service projects, review SR: Next Gen programming, and engage in thought leadership for special events, advocacy, and outreach activities. They will identify grant, funding, and research opportunities for SRF and represent the organization across multiple media and content platforms such as webinars, social, blogs, and other online outlets. Members of the YAC serve as highly engaged ambassadors of SRF online and in their local communities. They work together to spread our mission to redefine recovery, inspire hope, end stigma, and empower women in or seeking recovery from mental health issues, trauma, substance use, and related life challenges to increase their recovery capital, heal themselves, and help other women to do the same.
As a YAC member, you will gain opportunities to:
A collaborative approach
The YAC serves as a collaborative partnership between young women/non-binary individuals who identify with women’s communities and participating SRF team members. YAC members can support SRF and its mission through the following:
Recovering out loud:
After receiving dedicated training for outreach and ambassadorship activities, YAC members can commit to recovering out loud by sharing their stories, serving as SRF ambassadors, amplifying Next Gen campaign initiatives and progress, and positioning themselves as advocates and champions of young women’s recovery in their local and/or online communities.
Advising the organization:
Serving in an advisory capacity to the organization and making recommendations to inform SRF leadership decisions.
Identifying barriers to young women’s recovery:
Gathering research and stories to determine the needs of young women, learning what resonates with them, exploring opportunities, and implementing strategies that will foster the development and utilization of strengths-based recovery solutions.
Informing & implementing targeted programs:
Contributing to the development and execution of youth-specific programs as well as identifying systemic improvements for the organization to better connect, support, and empower young women as a whole.
Sourcing support:
Fundraising for SRF through peer-to-peer and/or individual campaigns. Sourcing relevant available grants, funding opportunities, and potential donors to fuel the SR: Next Gen project and its activities.
Supported by the Alkermes Inspiration Grants® Program
“Being chosen as an Alkermes Inspiration Grants Program recipient to connect, support, and empower the next generation of young women on their journey of recovery is a profound honor. As someone who struggled with substance use, self-injurious behavior, and disordered eating during my youth, the opportunity to develop ‘SHE RECOVERS: The Next Generation’ and this youth action committee is a dream come true. I am humbled and grateful for this unique opportunity to ensure that the next generation can rise rooted in recovery.”
