As a child, I dreamed of becoming an astronaut. In the end, I didn’t go to the moon. And yet I am still fascinated by space travel. Manpura, Saphal and Prabhav from the small mountain village of Rama in the far west of Nepal also dream big about their future. The fact that these dreams seem more realistic than my astronaut dream from back then is thanks to you donors for “School up – far west” – the aid project that I launched in mid-2022 and which is also supported by top Austrian mountaineer Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner.

With your money and the expertise of Nepalhilfe Beilngries, the construction of the new school in the village in Humla District goes on. “I’ve experienced studying in a school with a makeshift roof, facing challenges like wind, rain, and clouds. Today, I express heartfelt gratitude to the Nepalhilfe organization for enhancing our school’s standards,” says Prabhav Shahi. The eleven-year-old is in sixth grade and dreams of one day working in a position of responsibility in his home country of Nepal.

Big goals

“I want to become a champion of justice, although I worry about the feasibility of this dream due to our family’s challenging circumstances,” says Prabhav. “Despite the difficulties, I am determined to pursue my dream and contribute to making Nepal a beautiful and happy country.”

Even Saphal Shahi wants to become “a leader, particularly in the context of Humla, the only district in Nepal without road connectivity”. His goal is to make “Humla prosperous and its residents happy, and I hope to achieve this dream soon,” says the twelve-year-old from the seventh grade of the school in Rama, adding that the aid organization Nepalhilfe “has protected students from illnesses and even deaths caused by studying in the intense heat of summer and cold in winter”.

Construction to continue even in winter

Manpura Shahi is in fifth grade and remembers well what it was like before the “School up – far west” project began: “Life in our remote village posed many challenges. We used to study under the shade of a tree or in a room with makeshift roofing.” The ten-year-old would like to become a medical doctor later on – partly because she herself experiences a lack of medical help in her village. “I am hopeful that Nepalhilfe will continue supporting my aspirations,” says Manpura. “I kindly request the timely completion of the ongoing project in our village.” The construction work will continue in winter – whenever the weather permits.
