South Africa skydiving is one of the most thrilling experiences for travellers looking for adventure. Sky diving is available throughout the country. And with incredible landscapes ranging from coastal beauty to iconic landmarks like Table Mountain, the country’s skydiving sites are as varied as they are breathtaking!

Skydiving in South Africa was brought into the public eye recently when Jean Jacques “JJ” Wallis was featured on CNN.com. Wallis is the founder of the online community “BASE Jump Africa”.

JJ Wallis is a professional in the field of air sports who “hopes to demystify air sports“. He’s an advocate for safety, and for air sports themselves.

But you don’t have to be a pro like Wallis to take the see the country from this incredible perspective. Skydiving is a popular sport in South Africa. A quick Google search is likely to turn up more than one skydiving school in your chosen destination.

And if you’ve travelled to South Africa, you know how spectacular the sights are, and that’s with your feet on the ground. Imagine getting a bird’s-eye-view!

Some popular skydiving destinations in the Rainbow Nation include Cape Town, where you can enjoy surreal views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. Johannesburg and Grahamstown are great options, too.

Coastal sites like Durban, Plett, Knysna, Mossel Bay, and Port Elizabeth also provide absolutely stunning views and offer top-notch instruction.

There are various types of skydiving experiences to choose from

Indoor Skydiving: This is an ideal place to start for those a little nervous about jumping from a plane. Indoor skydiving uses a vertical tunnel with a consistent air stream.
Tandem Skydiving: Also suitable for beginners, tandem skydiving involves being strapped to an instructor who handles the technicalities. You just enjoy the view!
Solo Skydive: For the more adventurous, involving rigorous training to jump independently. Work your way up to this unbelievable adventure.
Formation Skydive: This is a professional-level activity where skydivers create formations mid-air?. Something to dream about! Experienced skydivers in formation

To be sure that you have the best experience possible, it’s important to visit during the dry seasons and avoid rainy periods.

For example, Johannesburg experiences rainy weather from December to February, while the Cape Town area has its rainy season from June to August.
