3 Things YOU Can Do to Stop this Heinous Crime
Jack Hall is a man with a goal: Stop human trafficking. Jack has had 30+ years of experience in law enforcement and crime investigation that brought him to this moment in his life where he is relentlessly educating people about ways they can help stop this crime.
Jack Hall says there are three things everyone can do to play a role in eliminating human trafficking:
1.) Get educated about human trafficking
According to the US Department of State, “traffickers compel their victims to engage in commercial sex and to work in both legal and illicit industries and sectors, including in hospitality, traveling sales crews, agriculture, janitorial services, construction, landscaping, restaurants, factories, care for persons with disabilities, salon services, massage parlors, retail services, fairs and carnivals, peddling and begging, drug smuggling and distribution, religious institutions, child care, and domestic work.”
Who and where are the victims?
A common misconception about human trafficking is that it does not happen “here” yet United States has the highest prevalence of this crime in the world.
You might be surprised to know that this is NOT a problem limited to females. In fact, 46% of victims are boys/male. You can find more detailed statistical info by clicking here for the National Human Trafficking Hotline website.
The following list of indicators may help you recognize potential victims so you can make a report of your suspicions:
Appearing malnourishedAppearing injured or having signs of physical abuseAvoiding eye contact, social interaction, and law enforcementResponding in manners that seem rehearsed or scriptedLacking personal identification documentsLacking personal possessions2.) Learn and teach the recognized distress signal of violence
Know this signal and teach it to your friends and family. As Jack explained in the video above, it can save lives!
3.) Know the number for the National Human Trafficking Hotline
The number is (888) 373-7888. Another way to remember it easily is 888 – 3737 – 888.
Put the phone number in your phone contact list!
