We covered yesterday that there is a Fairfield hotel opening soon in Denmark (read more here) where Bonvoy members only earn half of the usual points and elite qualifying nights, but unfortunately, this is not an isolated case with this brand.

Marriott confirmed that Fairfield branded hotels in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa won’t earn 10 points per USD and full elite qualifying nights, like is currently the case with Protea, City Express, and Four Points Express hotels.

The Fairfield brand is becoming confusing because it currently earns full points (10 per USD) and full elite qualifying nights (1 for 1) at all open properties in the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

The Fairfield Hotels in Asia don’t offer complimentary breakfast as the properties in the Americas do, and it is not even a Guaranteed Welcome Gift option for Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador members.

Now, Fairfield branded hotels in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa have their points earnings cut in half (5 per USD), and you only earn an elite qualifying night for every two nights consumed.

Marriott won’t award partial elite qualifying nights, so stays of 1 night won’t earn an elite qualifying night at all, and stays of 3 nights only yield 1.

Marriott Brand Bonvoy Earnings Chart:

It seems inevitable that Fairfield is on its way to the same earnings schedule as Protea, City Express, and Four Points Express.

Protea Reduced Earnings

Marriott Cuts Bonvoy Points & Elite Qualifying Nights Earnings In Half At Protea Hotels On March 1, 2023

City Express Reduced Earnings

Four Points Express Reduced Earnings

Apartments By Marriott Bonvoy & Four Points Express Elite Benefits & Points Earnings

Conclusion

I prefer simplicity and don’t like having to remember differences in various brand attributes in separate markets. This Fairfield is becoming super messy, having three sets of benefits and points earnings, depending on where you happen to stay.

The goal must be to move this brand to the same band as Protea, City Express, and Four Points Express, where the earnings for both points and elite qualifying nights are aligned, one could say halved compared to the full-service brands.
