Cathay Pacific First Class passengers who are on flights where a PYE branded pajama is given out usually find a little card with a voucher in the PJ bag that invites them to visit a store to receive a gift of 500 HKD off a purchase.
Cathay has previously changed brands from Shanghai Tang (where a similar promotion was available) to PYE, which uses rather nice materials for their regular apparel available in-store.
I received the PYE voucher on a flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong in February and never got around to redeeming it until I discovered it again last week and made it a point to go by the store in Hong Kong to pick up the gift.
Passengers not staying in Hong Kong can also visit stores in Mainland China to redeem their item which gives a bit more flexibility.
This is the voucher:
I decided to visit the store at Pacific Place in Admiralty:
I liked one particular shirt and wouldnt have minded paying 1500 HKD extra (after the 500 HKD discount), but it didnt fit right at the shoulders (the reason why I usually have my shirts tailored in Bangkok), so I ended up selecting the gift which turned out a whole box of nice handkerchiefs:
The products are of really high quality, and Im impressed that it was actually something useful. Its also presented nicely in a sturdy box and a nice PYE fabric tote bag.
My voucher given out in February had an expiry date of March 2024, so Im glad I remembered to look for it and finally redeem it (I could have done so on two previous occasions but forgot about the voucher at home).
Conclusion
Cathay Pacific often runs promotions with their partners where inflight products are promoted to get customers to visit the physical store in Hong Kong. The promotion with the voucher is a great idea; the PYE products are not cheap, but the materials used are good.
Im more surprised that even the free gift was of high quality and not some useless stuff. PYE did the right thing here to present passengers with something thats worthwhile to come all the way to the store for. I forgot to ask if they have a different item for female customers.
