Qatar Airways has apparently prepared another Christmas present for some (not all) Privilege Club members, offering targeted elite members a three-month status extension through March 31, 2024.
The extension is visible in the dashboard of members, some of whom noticed that their status expiration has changed in the last few days from December 31, 2023 to March 31, 2024.
Qatar Airways Privilege Club ran the same campaign last year and ended up extending everyone’s status for the entire 2023 calendar year, though from the looks of it, this one appears to be more targeted.
To remind our readers, this is how it came about in December 2022:
Qatar Airways Extends Member Tiers Through March 31, 2023 + Hints About Program Change
And then another extension that happened in the spring:
Privilege Club has been extremely generous to its members with these tier extensions. If this current one is indeed targeted, then maybe we’ll learn a bit about the selection process downstream. Or do they just do the extensions in batches, and not every account has received an extension yet? That’s also a possibility.
A friend’s account that I checked on this morning also had her Privilege Club Gold status extended through the end of March 2024:
This was a status-matched Gold tier completed short before the pandemic but did accumulate a few Avios points along the way, including several flights with Qatar and other Oneworld carriers.
I wonder how far this will go and if we will see another extension of these accounts through the end of 2024 or if this is really the end of the road.
Conclusion
Qatar Airways has extended some status tier accounts through the end of March 2024, which is another 3-month extension similar to the campaign they ran in December 2022, where they did exactly the same thing, only to extend the status another nine months in March.
I wonder what Qatar Airways’ motivation behind all this is. After all, travel has been back in full swing for a good 18-24 months now. Are they really that short on elite members, or are they trying to entice customers to fly more with QR?
The one particular account I had a look at had a relatively recent Economy Class flight with Qatar Airways between Germany and Thailand, so IF they are looking for QR or any flight activity, then this particular flight would have passed muster.
Have you received a status extension with Qatar Airways this week?
