One week to go. Seven full days and one full weekend left.
I think I’ve got rid of the brain fog. I’m not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. If I get up at 7am my brain wakes up at around 12…after a couple of strong espressos, that is. I work better later in the day and am more of a night owl (if I’m not working and HAVE to get up early) than a lark. But then again, if I’m on my own I could quite happily slink off to bed at 10.30pm with a good book. And I have to snooze my alarm at least a couple of times before I think about sliding out from between the bed sheets.
Since doing the challenge I have noticed that I’m thinking quicker than before, with clarity of thought. I still take a while to wake up but it’s like the mist has lifted. I think I’m speaking Italian better too (if I do say so myself) and not taking so long to pluck the right word out of the air to express myself.
I remember a brilliant college once said that she stopped drinking coffee and started drinking Rooibos tea and her brain started suddenly working. She put it down to being or feeling hydrated. Now, she really had a quick mind and I really respected her. She had a way of looking at something from another angle that had never occurred to me before so I followed in her footsteps and started drinking Rooibos tea. Needless to say it didn’t have the same effect on me, but giving up coffee did.
I did a clean detox a couple of years ago and discovered that giving up coffee made me feel more awake in the morning. It could also be the fact that I felt lighter not eating bread, cheese, etc. and all the foods that weigh you down but essentially my thinking was clearer and my brain woke up and worked quicker.
So I’ve decided to give up coffee for October to see if this is the case. I’ve been bitten by the ’30-day challenge’ bug – even though October has 31 days. But don’t worry…I’m definitely NOT going to blog about that!!!!
