REVIEW: LUMEBOX Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy has literally, been life-changing for me! But, the treatments can be really expensive – like, $200+ a visit! So, I began looking into something more portable, that I could use at home – and came across LUMEBOX!

LUMEBOX  is seriously one of THE MOST EFFECTIVE at-home health + wellness products I’ve EVER used! I wish I had it when going through Cancer! And, I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one! In fact, since I got it last year – I haven’t missed one single day of using it, which is pretty crazy! I guess that’s just a testament of how much it’s truly helped me! I wanted to give you an honest review though, because I know things like this can be super-expensive. It’s definitely an investment in your health – but, health is wealth, right?

Red Light Therapy

The biggest differences I’ve noticed so far, have been: my skin, sleep (through night), energy (during day), reduction in pain, inflammation, cramps, better immunity, clearer vision, + thinking… and the list goes on! BTW, LUMEBOX has a ton of studies listed on the FAQ page of their site. So, I’m not going to list them all here, but definitely check them out!

There are over 2,000+ Published Studies on RLT! Many have shown that both NIR + Red Light Therapy LED devices produce the SAME benefits as expensive Laser Treatments. Boosts Mitochondrial Function for Better Energy, Sleep, Mood, + Cognition. Increases Cellular Repair, Regeneration, + Collagen Production, for Healthier Skin + Hair. Increases Blood Flow, Tissue Repair, Muscle Recovery + Wound Healing. Reduces Pain + Inflammation.

Incase you’re wondering what the difference between Red Light + NIR is… the main difference is that, Near Infrared Light actually penetrates the body (by about 5 mm), which is deeper than Red Light. So… Red Light – is better for skin issues. Near Infrared Light (NIR) – is better for deeper tissues, like muscle + joints. Also, love that LUMEBOX has a setting so that you can use both NIR (at 850nm) + Red Light (at 660nm) at the same time! Such a great feature! Keep in mind it doesn’t penetrate through clothing though… so, be prepared to strip it down! ?

LUMEBOX

When I initially began looking into RLT – my two main concerns were: 1. EMF, and 2. Flicker. I love that LUMEBOX is 3rd party / independently lab tested to be Low-EMF (at 0 cm away from the device, not at 6” – like other brands) where it measured at 0.2uT. For reference, most hair dryers are about 50-100x that. I also discovered, that Flicker, is actually caused by the stability of the power supply, and is normally a bigger concern for LED products, that run on AC power. Luckily, LUMEBOX runs on DC / Battery Power. So, that’s not really an issue here either. Here’s what sets LUMEBOX apart, from all of the other brands out there…

3rd Party Lab Tested for Safety, High Irradiance, + Lowest EMF! FDA Registered Class II Medical Device Designed by an M.D. Both Red + Near Infrared (NIR) Light – at the same time! 80% More Powerful than Other Brands – Requiring Shorter Treatment Times! 25% Bigger than Other Brands – More LEDs + Better Coverage Area! Longest Battery Life + Fast Charging! More Affordable than Competitors!

LUMEBOX REVIEW

While it seems small, it’s actually pretty powerful, and treats a wide area of the body! Although, I’d definitely be lying if I said I didn’t want them they made a bigger panel! I love that I can travel with it though! And, that this has both Red Light + NIR that can be used at the same time! Only peeve is that the button is a little too sensitive. I accidentally end up shutting it off, or using one mode, or the other (when I want to use both) without realizing. This happens when I put it behind my back, lean on it, etc. So, you just have to be mindful of that. I mainly use it, by placing it directly on my skin / body (instead of sitting in front of it), unless I’m using it on my face.

I use it about 2-3 times a day, in full 12 minute sessions, mainly because my body has been through so much post-Cancer. Most people can probably just use it once a day though, and still feel the effectiveness of it. I use it first thing in the morning (when I’m meditating), and again at night when I’m starting to wind down for the day (which gives me some of the best sleep of my life!).

If I’m in pain, or not feeling well (headaches, cramps, coming down with something, workout recovery, etc.), I’ll use it a 3rd time. Each full charge gives 100-120 minutes of use, so it lasts several days, using it about 2-3 times per day, for a full treatment session. And, love that the adapter is white!

I use my LUMEBOX so often, that it never actually makes it into the case it comes with, unless I’m traveling. Definitely use it for that though, otherwise it’ll turn on in your bag, and kill the battery (trust me!). The only thing about the case is that the white on the outside of mine is starting to yellow a little? So, I wish it were maybe orange, to prevent that?

As far as the handle – I have a love / hate relationship with it! Love that it comes off (for comfort), but you definitely can’t carry it by the handle at all, which is easy to forget! I’ve dropped mine a few times because of it (luckily, on carpet). Not a deal-breaker for me (now that I know better), but I wish it had a thinner handle that stayed on + folded down, like some of the other brands do.

LUMEBOX 2.0 REVIEW

So, the new LUMEBOX 2.0 has an optional timer that beeps at 6 minutes and 12 minutes (great if you fall sleep with it on like I do!), and fixes the issue I mentioned above – with the handle coming off too easily. BTW, these were both heavily requested upgrades – so, Thanks for listening LUMEBOX!

While I don’t have the LUMEBOX 2.0 yet (they keep selling out, so this is a preliminary review!), I’m a little disappointed in the new handle design. It seems like they just took the handle it already had, and redesigned it, by attaching 2 screws on the sides to secure it (which definitely works, so I’m glad they’ve upgraded it!). However, I was hoping for something that would lay completely flat instead – like an actual strap, that fits snugly around the the device… simply for the purpose of comfort (behind your back, etc.). For the record, you can totally remove the handle – I just don’t feel like putting it on / taking it off all the time. I’m also curious to see if the screws will make it uncomfortable if I leave it on.

LUMEBOX PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR

I wish the Protective Eyewear was either orange or white – to match everything else (they’re black)! I personally don’t use them (I just keep my eyes closed), and over time, this has drastically helped me with light sensitivity issues, clearer vision, the skin around my eyes, etc. But, I’m not a doctor, so – see my medical disclaimer below.

LUMEBOX STAND

They just came out with a brand new LUMEBOX Stand – that has a sleek new design, extends to 20 cm high (previously 8.5cm), tilts to a 45 degree angle, and has an additional hook to hand your goggles on. While the Stand is sold separately – I think it should be automatically included in the package.

With that being said, (I have the old stand) and don’t really use mine that often. However, I know a lot of people that do! It really depends on what you’re using it for though. I originally got my red light mainly for use on my body. But, if you plan on using it for face / skin face at all – you’ll definitely want it! It just makes it easier to use, rather than propping your LUMEBOX up on some books, etc. Plus, you can direct the red light to exactly where you need it to go with the new stand. So, I’d get it if you can, when you order your LUMEBOX – this way, you won’t have to pay the extra shipping for it later on!

Red Light Face Masks vs. LUMEBOX

If you’re into Red Light Face Masks instead, HigerDOSE makes a great one. Aside from them kinda creeping me out (haha!) a little, I think something to consider is that LUMEBOX is much more versatile – you can use it anywhere on your body, including your face, as opposed to only being able to use it on your face. FYI: when I first started using RLT on my face, my skin got super-dry, but then about a week later, I noticed this sudden turnover of supple, glowing skin! It’s also made my skincare products so much more effective, too! So, yay for that!

DISCLAIMER: I’m not a Doctor + don’t play one on the Internet! So, this obviously isn’t Medical Advice. Just my own personal experience. I wanted to try to break it down + answer all the questions I had when starting Red Light Therapy! Hope this helps!
