Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was great and you found time to relax! I am back for a weekend update and sharing the weekend shenanigans. The weekend was super busy as we are building a chicken coop. Yes, I finally am pulling the trigger on raising a few laying hens. Interested in my weekend Shenanigans, then just keep reading!
It’s chick days and you can find tons of adorable baby chicks at your local farm supply store. I’ve been tossing around the idea for months as inflation has impacted the costs of eggs. I also purchase organic free range/cage free brown eggs which is part of the cost. However, I believe the quality of life and food chickens eat improves the quality of eggs. Granted I have researched everything about raising chickens until my head starts spinning. No it’s not going to be easy, but having pets with a perk sounds like fun. Now that you why I am doing this, check out the progressive on building the coop.
This is a 6×10 enclosed chicken coop and run. To buy this chicken coop and run pre-made would be upwards of $4,000 depending on your area, partially due to costs in lumber. I found these plans on Etsy and spent around $1,800 in supplies including: lumber, wire, hinges, screws, tin, siding, and last but not least my Run-Chicken door. Building the coop was very time consuming and hard work. Building a structure in the summer here can be brutal, but this will be so worth it.
From sun up to sun down, battling rain and super hot sticky weather we were able to get 90% done of building the coop. I can’t wait to finish it and get the baby chicks. You know this time of year it’s hard to shop in farm supply stores, because baby birds are just so cute. I also found Bock Bock Bouquet on YouTube that has very informative videos that I highly recommend if you are thinking of raising chickens. This is pretty much all I did this weekend, it was surprisingly very time consuming. I can’t wait to keep you guys in the loop on raising laying hens and building the coop.
How was your weekend? Have you ever thought of raising baby chicks? Let me know in the comments below. Have a great week!
