Seattle-based artist Jon Aaron Cieri shows an enchanting sound on new single “Timothy Kimchi,” a showcase of his melodic rock, pop, and electronic intertwining. The solo instrumentalist self-produces his own material, creating much of his material while on the road; Cieri works as a tour manager, writing and recording in hotels across the United States. Emily Wells is noted as a particular inspiration on this track, with Cieri also referencing general influences like Son Lux, Ratatat, The Postal Service, and FKJ.
A gripping instrumental track, “Timothy Kimchi” traverses quickly from bright synth wavering into debonair guitar accompaniments, adding a twangy playfulness. A myriad of catching structural turns emerge thereafter. Emotive strings appear, easing cohesively into tender guitar brushes that evoke a soulful character. A yearning tonal charm arrives alongside clap-laden percussion, rousing into a charismatic mid-point with soaring electric guitars. “Timothy Kimchi” is an eclectic rock/electronic success from Jon Aaron Cieri.
