Erin Ash Sullivan is one of fourteen acts to appear at the 2022 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Thursday Night Music Stage.
It’s only been a short time that I’ve known Erin and her music. She contacted me and asked if I could interview her for this blog. I agreed that I’d listen to her music and see if my journalistic muse prompted me to ask some questions. And, boy, I hit the jackpot when I sat down and listened to her collection of story songs included on her debut album, We Can Hear Each Other. Each song was like opening a new gift on Christmas morning; there were tales to tell and emotions to explore. If you are fond of singer-songwriters who weave stories into their songs, you need to listen to this album. More recently, I happened upon an online songwriting critique in which the masterful Peter Mulvey responded to a work in progress by Erin. He was touched by the sentiment of the song she was in the process of creating as were all the participants. It was a most excellent peek into the craft of songwriting and made me appreciate Erin’s work even more.
It was fascinating to learn that Erin was actually part of a duo called Edith O with much beloved musician, Amy Speace, back in the day. Erin left the world of music when she began her family and has come back onto the scene at full tilt. Erin has an impressive list of accolades received in the past two years and is eager to share her music with new fans. The Unxigned music blog said this of Erin’s music: “Melodic, fresh, and easygoing, with storytelling prowess on full display…recalling the likes of Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez.” Not too shabby company for sure!
