Annie Sumi (with Travis Knapp) is one of fourteen acts to appear at the 2022 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Thursday Night Music Stage.

Thank you to a friend who suggested that I ask Annie Sumi to play on the Thursday Night Music Stage. I had totally forgotten that Annie and her musical partner, Travis Knapp, were living in New York State and might be interested in a trek over to Connecticut to play at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I was delighted to receive an affirmative response and now we get to present Annie and Travis for the first time at FRFF. Annie’s bio describes her as an “ethereal” artist and it’s an apt audio portrayal of her one-of-a-kind music. She sings the kind of songs that make you want to lean in closer and listen with every molecule of your body.

Annie hails from Ontario and celebrates her indigenous background with reverence and beauty. Her latest album, Solastalgia, is the product of time spent at the Sleeping Buffalo Mountain on Stoney Nakoda and Blackfoot Territory at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Annie translates the wilderness that surrounded her during the songwriting process and draws an insightful illustration of the awe-inspiring beauty in that part of the world. As Carter Smith from Common Ground Concerts says: “Listening to Annie Sumi in concert is like taking a musical forest bath.”

Here’s an older video of Annie performing “Get By.”

I took a deep dive and interviewed Annie about her album here.
