Like most of the country, I have spent the last month in either self-isolation or abiding by mandatory hunker-down orders. It has been a wild season, and I will probably share more on how I’m doing here in my little isolation bubble at another time. But not today! Today I’m going to talk about Catherine & Corky’s King Street Brewery Wedding and forget about everyting else for just a minute.
I met Catherine at her best friend’s Priya’s wedding about 5 years ago. I observed their friendship and Catherine’s dry sense of humor and caring personality and just adored her instantly. Out of the blue one day I got an email from Catherine asking to hold Leap Day 2020 for her wedding and I was *thrilled* I have been looking forward to their day for a long time, and now more than ever I am so glad that they chose February 29th, just before all of this Covid-19 stuff got crazy.
Catherine & Corky’s wedding was a bit different than most weddings I have photographed in Anchorage. I rarely get to photograph wedding parties inside at the Anchorage Museum, and this was my first time shooting a wedding at King Street. Having those two venues as our main backdrops gave the whole wedding a really modern vibe which is totally up my alley. If you’ve seen my house you know that I love a space that feels modern and clean but still warm, and those are all words that I would use to describe the aesthetic of the wedding.
Something I really appreciate in design and weddings (and in life, in general) is cohesion, and a cohesive wedding is actually pretty difficult to pull off. To me, a cohesive event feels effortless from start to finish. Every detail works together and makes sense. Catherine did a fabulous job in communicating her vision to her Florist and Designer (Dallas, the owner of Bloomsbury Blooms) and then the two of them created the most effortlessly beautiful, warm, thoughtful wedding celebration and it was a complete pleasure for me to photograph it. One of the best parts of the day was when Catherine dressed up in a TRex costume for the first look…best first look EVER. Thanks for indulging this extra long blog post! I mean, we all have a little time to scroll these days, so why not?!
