I’m going to get to this Girdwood Elopement at Alyeska Resort, I promise. But first, a little business because it’s been a while!! I have been a wedding photographer for more than TEN Years now, and I’m going to be honest: This is the longest that I have gone without blogging a wedding or a shoot. Ever! I used to blog every single time I had a shoot. no. matter. what. There are a few reasons why I’ve taken a major break from blogging that span from burnout to having a third child to having conflicted and changing feelings on what/how/when to blog my work. Also, the world has changed a bit in the last few years and I have been spending a lot more of my effort sharing my work on Instagram. The thing that I think blogs have that instagram can’t quite match is the ability to share enough images to tell a really full story. I don’t know if anyone else has this experience but things start to feel like a lot more WORK when they aren’t built in to my usual workflow – that’s why I really thrive on routines and I seem to get the most sh!t done when I’m operating off of a schedule (which can be hard when you’re self employed…but I digress!)
Today I decided to just go ahead and force myself back on the wagon with then intention of blogging some of my past work. I have shot so many weddings and elopements in the past two years that have never been properly shared, and I want to remedy that. I do want to say though, that if I don’t blog a shoot it is not because I didn’t love my client or because I didn’t think that their wedding was ‘good enough’. This way of sharing my work is largely about reaching new clients who are in the process of searching for a wedding photographer…so if you are reading this and I have worked with you in the past, please keep that in mind!
I decided to start by sharing this really beautiful Girdwood Elopement at Alyeska Resort from last Summer. Looking back at these photos just makes me feel GOOD, and I think its because their joy was palpable. Elijah & Mary Beth were having so much fun together, they were in such a celebratory mood that it was contagious. I think that a side benefit of my job is that I can learn something about relationships from almost every couple I work with. In this case I was reminded about the importance of laughter in a marriage. I think it will serve these two well for many years to come.
