Silver Salmon is one of the most popular game fish for fly anglers. They are aggressive, acrobatic, and an outright blast to hook, especially on the fly.
The Chromer Snack is a fly pattern designed by the group that was World Wide Anglers here in Alaska. The shop may be gone, but the legacy continues with this effective Silver Salmon fly pattern. The Chromer Snack is a modern, slimmed-down variation of the ESL with a hint of flash and pizazz. The tyer took some liberties with materials, but the essence of the fly is the same. Try your own variety of colors and tie plenty to fill your box for the Silver Salmon Season.

Material List:
Hook: Daiichi 2220 Sz 4 Dumbbells: Lead Nickle Medium Tail: Purple Marabou Flash: Krinkle Mirror Flash Pink Hackle: Purple Schlappen Body: UV Purple Ice Dub Head: Fl. Shell Pink Ice Dub Thread: Veevus GSP 100 White (Veevus 140 Fl. Pink is a good alternative)Step 1. Tie in your dumbbell eyes appx one hook eye width back of the eye. Wrap your thread back to the start of the bend.
Step 2. Tie in a hook shank length of marabou for your tail.
Step 3. Using two strands of Krinkle Flash, tie in centered on the side of the tail. Fold the flash over the top and repeat on the opposite side. Trim flash to tail length.
Step 4. Tie in the tip of your schlappen.
Step 5. Create a dubbing loop, using even lengths of your ice dub, and stack a light amount into the loop to create the body.
Step 6. Spin your dubbing loop tight. You want to make the body as thin as possible. Do not pick out.
Step 7. Wrap the body forward to behind the dumbbells. Tie down and trim. Trim the body down to where it looks even and not a bunch of spiky fibers.
Step 8. Palmer your schlappen forward, using evenly spaced turns. Make two to three turns at the end to create a nice collar. Tie off and trim.
Step 9. Create another dubbing loop and place even lengths of ice dub in the loop. Trim the dubbing down to create a small sweeping head. Spin and then pick or brush out trapped fibers. Make a couple of turns behind the eyes, then Figure 8 wrap around the eyes, and then a turn or two in front. Tie off and trim. Build the head and whip finish, then glue.
Step 10. Brush the head out.
Completed Fly. Now go get some Silver Salmon.
