Zappa is a 4-5 year old male omanian Mioritic Shepherd Cross. He did not have a great start to life after being found in Romania in a terrible state in a kill shelter. His fur was badly matted, covered in paint and he had a bad ear infection.

Thankfully he was rescued in time to be given a second chance. He was shaved, treated to get a clean bill of health, and is now in the UK waiting for his new forever family to come along.

Zappa is so over the moon with how much better he feels, he is full of energy and can behave like he is much younger and puppy like in nature. At present he can be a little mouthy when excited, but ignoring this behaviour and stopping all interaction is working and he is improving every day.

Zappa accepts the lead and harness and walks happily around the garden. His fosterer believes it wont be long till he is ready to start exploring outside, but wants to help him settle in the home a bit more first.

Zappa sleeps through the night with no disturbances and is clean in the house. He was toilet trained in just over a day of arriving!

Zappa has no food aggression and takes treats nicely from you. He absolutely loves his toys and a treat filled kong introduced recently is his high value treat. He also loves his licky mat with peanut butter on it for special occasions.

Zappa is very intelligent and highly trainable dog who takes to learning well. He is being taught some hand commands to sit and is a really clever, quick learner.

He is also learning ‘bed’ and now can be invited to it by hand signal. Keeping up on his training would be great in his new home as it keeps his mind engaged and helps channel his energy.

Zappa gets along well with other dogs and is very playful. He is very respectful around other dogs and shows them he wants to play by play bowing and bouncing around, but does not bother them if they are not interested.

He would really enjoy the company of a similarly playful dog and we feel this would also act as a great role model for him in his new home. He has been introduced to visitors in the home and does initially bark, but with clear direction on what is expected he soon calms down and becomes very welcoming with new people.

Zappa currently lives with older teenage children and is great with them. Given his size and bouncy nature, we feel he would be better homed without young children as he might easily knock them over without meaning to.

Zappa can be reactive to sounds in the home or garden that are quite new to him. He will need some ongoing training and desensitisation to this, but after a short time in foster he is already getting more familiar with these things.

Zappa has been vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and fully health checked by a vet. He is currently being fostered in Essex but would be a great addition to a family who are looking for an affectionate, scruffy boy to give their time to.
