In 2013, Bhargsetu Sharma from Gujarat started ‘Humans with Humanity’ to rescue distressed animals. Today, more than 3,000 people across the country have joined her cause to be the voice for thousands of animals.
Growing up in a family that cared deeply for animals, Bhargsetu Sharma from Gujarat always had compassion for animals. However, an event in 2012 turned her passion into her life’s mission.
“A few puppies were thrown away from my society because they used to poop or litter around. We brought them back and realised that they have a right to live on this planet, which belongs to all of us,” says Bhargsetu, who is now in her 20s.
Soon after, her friends joined her cause and they started receiving multiple calls for animal rescue. To expand the work, she started a Facebook page called ‘Humans with Humanity’ in 2013 along with her friend Shardul Dave.
What started with eight members is today a team of 3,000 people across the country. So far, her team has rescued over 5,000 stray animals like dogs, monkeys, and birds.
“We do not call ourselves animal welfare activists but we call ourselves humanitarians. We set an example of humanity in society and how to be kind, compassionate, and considerate with animals around,” she adds.
Bhargsetu also appeared on the TV show ‘MTV Roadies Real Heroes’ for her incredible work. “I was invited on the TV show, where I was able to be the voice for animals,” she says.
While she continues to inspire with her compassion for furry creatures, she says, “Let us all be together in this journey where we can support people as well as nature around us, and live a better and more beautiful life.”
