A Baby for the Lumberjacks by Chloe Kent is the first of a supposedly trashy romance trilogy. Fortunately for me this was not the case. Well... it was a little trashy, but not completely. This book revolves around a girl, Saffron Sinclair, your typical looking punk girl with various tattoos, piercings, thigh high heeled boots, short skimpy skirt and red streaks through her black hair. Her father, Alan Sinclair, is a gambling addict and her older sister, Marigold, is an artist while their mother passed away five years ago.

With the debts Alan had acquired, he was putting himself and his family in danger. But then he makes a deal with the devil that saves his skin but puts his daughters over the flames...

(SPOILER WARNING! START)

Saffron, Marigold and Alan are in the kitchen when Alan explains to Saffron the deal he made to get them out of debt and safe. The deal isn't outright said here, just foreshadowed. Saffron is furious about the deal, considering that her father didn't really give Marigold a choice, forcing her into it, and Marigold can have a better life than that. Marigold doesn't deserve to be subjected to what is to come. So, Saffron and Marigold do a coin flip to make the final decision who is to go, since Saffron volunteered herself to take her sister's place. Hey, Katniss, how've you been? Nice to see you hopping books now.

Moving on, Saffron wins the coin toss and Marigold and her pack up a few bags for Saffron so that she can leave. Saffron then heads to a mansion in the middle of nowhere and is greeted by three men who have no idea who she is. She is very brass and abrasive, bluntly asking which one of them was Carter Blake, the man who paid three million dollars to put a baby in her.

That's right, her father took three million dollars to settle their debts and in exchange gave up one of his daughters to be impregnated by complete strangers. Wonderful father, don't you think? But, she was hoping that Carter Blake would be turned off by her style and personality so that he would send her away and her family would be able to keep the three million. Unfortunately for Saffron, the men said they would take her and she was then manhandled, slung over one of their shoulders, into the house. She is then released in the study where the men introduce themselves: Carter Blake, Jack Hallson, and Caleb Jeffries; and explain the situation since her father deceived both her and Marigold. She wasn't just going to have the baby with one of them, but all of them...

(SPOILER WARNING! END)

I genuinely very much enjoyed this novel. Chloe Kent wrote the mature scenes very well and the polyamorous relationship that blossoms between Saffron and the three lumberjacks. Now, I do want to clear something up real quick. This isn't really a reverse harem despite many people probably categorizing it as such. A reverse harem may have a girl who attracts many men but usually those men will fight over the girl to be her number one. With polyamory, it's more like sharing, the girl loves all the men equally and they are fine with sharing the girl without animosity between them. In some instances, the men will love each other as well to complete the circle but other times they don't and it's more of a polyamorous tree.

With these four, it's more of a tree situation. The men aren't in love with each other but all of them love Saffron and Saffron loves all of them equally. And there is no animosity between the three for sharing Saffron since in the first place they didn't care who the baby daddy was going to be, just the fact that the baby was a symbol of their unity and legacy.

The only thing I didn't like was how quickly Saffron became submissive to Carter, Caleb and Jack. Literally after two days with them and she was basically putty in their hands to mold however they wanted. Her abrasiveness and brass nature dimmed drastically within the first week with them. But other than that, I really enjoyed the writing and polyamorous relationship that blooms with the four of them.

If there are any more polyamorous books you guys think I should read, drop them in the comments below! I do like me a well written polyam story so I am open to suggestions. Thanks so much for reading!
