Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2, episode 11 aired this past week, continuing what I like to call the “Okinawa” arc. In this tropical paradise, our five characters have experienced some challenges concerning their love pentagon. However, at present, Naoya and Shino find themselves in the biggest predicament of the arc yet as they are stranded on a deserted island. At the end of the last episode, Shino and Naoya are face to face on top of each other. This is where episode 11 starts, and we get to see just how much Saki does care for Naoya, and how Shino attempts to come to terms with that.

Her Resolve, and Then

After uncontrollably kissing Naoya, Shino suddenly falls ill on the island, a possible side effect of staying out all night in the cool weather. This gives Naoya the strength and determination that he needs to hold Shino while swimming back to the main island, where Nagisa and Saki are searching for the two. Naoya is not by any means a character that I admire or even trust, but he does continue to prove that he cares for the safety and well-being of each girl, even Shino, who isn’t his girlfriend. This makes Naoya a hard character to hate despite how stupid he is in almost every situation.

Once ashore on the main island, the two are found by Saki, who is crazy worried about Naoya with tear-filled eyes. Shino thinks about Saki’s reaction to finding Naoya and watches them finally share the kiss we had been anticipating since episode two of the season. Shino’s friendship with Saki and her feelings for Naoya have conflicted the entire series, and this kiss between Saki and Naoya leads Shino to make a rash decision. Shino’s guilt has finally boiled over considering the kiss she gave him on the deserted island.

Back at the beach house, Mirika demands an explanation of the events that happened while on the island, to which Shino tells the truth. When Saki, Nagisa, and Naoya are also in the room, Shino announces a rash decision that personally disappoints me. She tells the group that she will be transferring schools and will be taking the next flight out of Okinawa. I understand her reasons for wanting to stay away from Naoya and Saki, but the sudden decision to hop on a plane and transfer schools is too dramatic of a change for her to make so instantly. I feel that she should just ride out the trip and continue to live as normally as possible to keep the others from speculating. Overall, while Shino is book-smart, she doesn’t seem to have an ounce of common sense when dealing with her feelings.

Girlfriend girlfriend Season 2 episode 11

We have one more episode to go this season. The group should be heading back to mainland Japan, and there’s sure to be talk about Shino’s sudden choice to switch schools. The season has heavily focused on Shino, but appropriately so. Despite feeling that Shino makes so many bad decisions, I understand that she’s thinking with her heart instead of her head. Her presence in the series alone has me too hooked on Girlfriend, Girlfriend – I think I’m staying until the end for this one.

We’ll be back next week on Anime Corner to review the final episode of Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2. Until then, check out my write-up on 16bit Sensation’s 11th episode.
