The Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise is getting an anime movie with the title of Umamusume: Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era (Shinjidai no Tobira). It will premiere in Japan on May 24, 2024.
Jungle Pocket (Yuri Fujimoto) is the protagonist of Umamusume: Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era. The movie will see the horse girl taking on the Classic Sankan (Triple Crown) Race and squaring off against same-generation rivals Agnes Tachyon (Sumire Uesaka) and Manhattan Cafe (Yui Ogura).
A 30-second trailer and a teaser visual have been released.
Ken Yamamoto (Pokémon: Hisuian Snow director, Princess Connect Re: Dive Season 2 opening storyboard artist and director) is directing the movie at CygamesPictures. Other core staff members include Tatsuya Kobari (Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 3 co-series composer) as scenario director and story composer, Kiyoko Yoshimura (takt op. Destiny series composer, Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 3 co-scriptwriter) as scriptwriter, and Jun Yamazaki (Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Road to the Top) as character designer and chief animation director.
The Cygames-created Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise started in 2018 with a P.A.Works-produced TV series. Season 2 (produced by Studio KAI with P.A.Works providing assistance) followed in 2021, while Season 3 (produced by Studio KAI) aired from October 5 to December 28 this year. A CygamesPictures-produced web anime titled Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Road to the Top was released on the Pakatube YouTube channel during the Spring 2023 anime season.
