Garlic Knots

The San Francisco 49ers played on Thanksgiving and Christmas this year… needless to say, my family was pretty excited. As Bay Area natives, it’s always a grand occasion to route on our team during the holidays. We invite friends over, I bust out all my favorite goodies, and we have a delicious time yelling at the television. ?

Serve these gems alongside your favorite dippin’ sauce; photographed here I have them with Homemade Buttermilk Ranch. I also like them with my Tangy Alabama White Sauce, or even my Quick and Easy Irish Beer Cheese!

INGREDIENTS FOR THIS RECIPE:

There was this pizza shop off of The Embarcadero that my co-workers and I would often visit for lunch because they would serve by the slice. They also had these amazingly cheesy, spicy garlic knots that we’d share… which is what inspired this recipe. Here’s what you’ll need for my version:

Salted Butter Buffalo Hot Sauce  Garlic Powder Worcestershire Pizza Dough Blue Cheese Green Onions Cilantro or Parsley Preferred Dipping Sauce

We love all things “buffalo” here at our house. If you’re as smitten with the flavors as we are, make sure to check out the following recipes!

MY SHORTCUTS AND TIPS:

While I normally utilize store-bought pizza dough, you can certainly make your own if that’s what you fancy. I just like how quickly the recipe comes together with store-bought. I also recommend crumbling the blue cheese yourself instead of buying a pre-crumbled container. The texture, melting consistency, and flavor is MUCH better… trust me. Lastly, I prefer Frank’s Hot Sauce for this recipe, as it’s tangy and embodies just the right amount of heat.

Football season calls for these pillowy garlic knots that are rolled in blue cheese crumbles and topped with buffalo sauce before baking.
Serves: 16
Ingredients
4 oz. Salted Butter, melted 2 - 3 tbsp. Buffalo Hot Sauce 1 tsp. Garlic Powder 2 shakes Worcestershire Sauce 16 oz. Prepared Pizza Dough 4 oz. Blue Cheese, crumbled Sliced Green Onions, for garnish Chopped Cilantro or Italian Parsley, for garnish ½ cup Preferred Dipping Sauce, optional
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400F. Whisk together the melted butter, hot sauce, garlic powder, and Worcestershire. Set aside. Cut the dough into 16 portions. Roll each piece on a floured cutting board until they’re about 8 inches long. Press blue cheese crumbles into each rolled out dough and fold into a knot. Top each one with more blue cheese crumbles if desired. Place the knots on a parchment lined baking sheet and evenly top each knot with the buffalo mixture. Bake for 15 - 18 minutes, or until they’re puffy and golden. Remove from the oven and transfer to a serving platter. Sprinkle with green onions, cilantro or parsley, and serve with optional dipping sauce.

NOTES ON THIS RECIPE:

I use salted butter, but if you want to use unsalted and then add your own salt to flavor preference… that works too!  Prepared pizza dough usually comes in 16 ounces. If you have a smaller 12 ounce dough, then cut the dough in 12 pieces instead of 16.  While I enjoy the mix of green onions with cilantro or parsley for garnish, feel free to use whatever you like! Fresh thyme is tasty or if you’re a spicy food lover you a top these with freshly chopped jalapeños!
