Apple is rumored to be upgrading the Ultra Wide camera on the next-generation iPhone 16 Pro with a 48-megapixel sensor, making it the second 48-megapixel sensor within the device’s triple-camera array, claims a leaker.
In a post on Weibo, a user under the name “Instant Digital” suggests that next year’s iPhone 16 Pro models will be stepping up their camera system with two 48-megapixel sensors, leaving the only rear camera with a 12-megapixel resolution as the Telephoto lens.
The new Ultra Wide lens would allow for the camera to capture more light, making improvements to shooting in 0.5× mode, especially in low-light environments.
Whilst the initial Weibo rumor should be taken with caution, as Apple is not anticipated to reveal the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max until September 2024, leaving space for potential modifications or even the abandonment of certain features, the leaker supports information that aligns with details previously provided by reputable analysts, such as Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities.
