Rewinding back to three of my favourite articles published in 2023.

Rewinding back to three of my favourite articles published in 2023.

My annual rewind posts, now in their third year (2022, 2021), take a minute to look back at some of my favourite articles and wallpapers published over the past year. And while it remains an area I am incredibly passionate about, finding the time to write meaningful articles consistently is becoming more and more of a challenge.

In 2021, I wrote over 50 articles for the site; in 2022, that slipped to just over 30; and in 2023, that dropped further to just over 20. I've always benefitted from long, uninterrupted pockets of time to get into the flow of writing, and since those are becoming increasingly more difficult to find, my ability to produce as many of the articles I want to has decreased. Nevertheless, I am still proud of my work and will ponder how I might rejig my articles to post more regularly. But out of those 20-odd articles I wrote this year, three stand out above the rest, and I decided to spotlight them here.

Apple's Controversial Cases

Love me a good ol' listicle! In Apple's Controversial Cases, I count down 10 of Apple's most preposterous and ill-received cases in recent decades. The most surprising thing I discovered when writing this post was that, in many instances, the accessories we look back on with nostalgia were received quite poorly when they were introduced. Take the iPod Socks, for example; forums are filled with people ridiculing these expensive, scratchy, and inaccessible cases that many admire today.

Rambling About the Mac Studio

Published: May 18, 2023 | Link

In Rambling About the Mac Studio, I write a pseudo review capturing my thoughts, admirations, and frustrations following a year of Mac Studio ownership. The Mac Studio was my first modular Mac and the most powerful computer ever. But it's far from a perfect computer. I have reservations about its aesthetics, lack of upgradeability, and a spoiled first year of ownership because of an annoying whistling issue and the tremendous headache that followed in resolving it.

Boardy

Being granted the opportunity to create an alt icon for Flighty was a dream come true. When I'm not wearing this hat, I'm a huge aviation nerd and have relied on Flighty for years during my travels. So, to make my mark on such a beloved app was a privilege.

But I am not an icon designer; I didn't know the first thing about creating an icon of this calibre. In Boardy, I outline the learning process I underwent while creating this icon and the feedback & challenges I received during the process.

Honourable Mention

I'll add two more honourable mentions to my favourite articles 2023 list. The first is my review of the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air after a year of ownership, and the second is my review and critique of the FineWoven cases released alongside the iPhone 15:

I love writing product reviews, and this entry featured an after one year retrospective review of one of my favourite Mac products of all time.
