Yes, we're already talkin' Apple Vision Pro 2 — how it's reportedly 'better' than the first

Before Apple can even launch its first Vision Pro headset, we've already got some details about how Vision Pro 2 will improve on it.

Apple Vision Pro headset on display

We're still (allegedly) just a month or two away from the Apple Vision Pro's long-awaited launch date, but rumors are already flying around about the second mixed-reality headset from Apple.

Citing market research firm Omdia, the Korean tech outlet The Elec reported that Apple is already planning display upgrades for the Apple Vision Pro 2.

The nitty-gritty tech details are a bit obtuse for the average person, but the gist of it is that Apple reportedly plans on upgrading the Vision Pro's WOLED (with a color filter) display to an RGD OLEDoS display in Vision Pro 2.

How is the rumored Apple Vision Pro 2's display better than its predecessor?

As MacRumors explained, the Vision Pro 2's display tech would negate the need for a color filter, thus producing much better brightness at higher efficiency than the headset Apple is set to launch in early 2024.

It's not exactly shocking to hear that a sequel to Vision Pro would include better display tech than the original, but knowing exactly how it will be better is a bit surprising given the first headset hasn't even launched yet.

Omdia believes the Vision Pro 2 will launch in 2027, backing up a previous prediction from Apple prognosticator Ming-Chi Kuo. In the meantime, Apple might launch a cheaper alternative to the Vision Pro (which is set to cost $3,500), but it's unclear when, or even if, that will actually happen. If it does, it will almost certainly not include the upgraded display features discussed in the Omdia report, but hey, you never know.

We'll find out if any of this is true in three years.
