A fledgling Alabama archery club is gearing up, thanks to the Lancaster Archery Foundation.

Henry County Archers of Newville, Ala., received a $1,000 grant from the foundation to put toward the purchase of new targets.

“We will use the funds for equipment for our range allowing our newly formed team to practice,” club officials wrote on their grant application.

“We are in need of targets, backstops, and other range equipment.”

Henry County Archers just formed in September 2022 to make it easier for local kids to access an archery program.

As a new club, Henry County essentially needs everything to set up a range, including targets and backstops.

“We stood up this club to fill the gap in our county for youth archery,” organizers wrote. “Every county around us has a team and this will allow our students to participate without having to travel far distances just for practice.”

This is precisely the kind of program Lancaster Archery Foundation was formed to help, according to Rob Kaufhold, president of the foundation’s board of directors.

“Just having access to archery equipment and facilities is a big hurdle in many communities,” he said. “We believe that if you can get kids to try archery, many of them will fall in love with it.”

Based in Lancaster, Pa., the Lancaster Archery Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expand, develop and promote 3D and target archery to help people improve their confidence, discipline and leadership skills through participation in competitive archery.
