Purdue transfer defensive linemen J.P. Deeter announced his commitment to Arizona State after visiting days prior, filling a crucial need for 2024.
Deeter, who spent two years at Purdue, didn’t see playing time due to injury and retains all four years of eligibility. Deeter’s decision to transfer to Tempe had to do with the coaching, specifically Diron Reynolds.

— J.P. Deeter (@JpDeeter_30) December 10, 2023“Reynolds was recruiting me at Stanford and I loved him as a coach,” Detter said. “It’s an attack-style defense that fits me perfectly. To be in the Big 12 is great too, a lot of games that will be close to home.
Personality-wise, he’s a players coach who always has a great relationship with his guys. I can talk football with him, learn a lot from him from good pre-snap indicators, just his overall knowledge. He’s coached a lot of guys, is an NFL (caliber) coach.”
Deeter was a three-star recruit in 2022, and now the 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive lineman will bolster the Sun Devil defensive front that lost Dahsaun Mallory for the NFL draft and Michael Matus to eligibility.
