Patrick Breen/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORKArizona’s final week of nonconference play saw it win a thriller in Phoenix and then drop one in Las Vegas. But despite the uneven results, there was still one constant: Oumar Ballo.
Ballo has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week after a pair of massive performances against Alabama and Florida Atlantic, going for 16 points and 12 rebounds on Wednesday and then 13 points with 21 boards against FAU.
The 21 rebounds were the most by a UA player since Jordan Hill had 21 in 2008.
Ballo was 9 of 22 from the field but made 11 of 17 free throws after coming into the week 11 of 28 from the line. For the season Ballo is averaging 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds while shooting 61.9 percent.
He is Arizona’s second Pac-12 Player of the Week winner after Kylan Boswell won it following the opening week of the season.
The UA nominated KJ Lewis for Freshman of the Week but the award went to UCLA’s Sebastian Mack. Lewis averaged 9.5 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks last week.
