One of Arizona’s biggest offseason needs, which was very noticeable for much of the Alamo Bowl, is already being addressed.

The Wildcats have landed a commitment from former Northwestern offensive lineman Alexander Doost, a Phoenix-area native whom the UA recruited out of high school.

The 6-foot-7, 295-pound Doost was a 3-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class who picked Northwestern over Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan State, Oregon State, Utah, Washington, Washington State and West Virginia. He played at Glendale’s Mountain Ridge HS, where he was ranked by 247Sports as the 17th-best prospect in the state.

Doost did not see action for Northwestern this past season, and will come to the UA with four seasons of eligibility remaining. He is the first offensive lineman Arizona has landed from the NCAA transfer portal under Jedd Fisch and should compete for the right guard position that figures to be the lone open spot on the line for 2024 with four other starters returning.

Arizona has now landed four transfers, the other three on defense: former UC-Davis defensive lineman Chubba Ma’ae, ex-Indiana cornerback Jordan Shaw and former Tennessee safety Jack Luttrell. Ma’ae has one season of eligibility left while the others have four.
