The latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the Gunners clash at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, as Mikel Arteta issues updates on Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
Jurgen Klopp welcomes Arsenal to Anfield this weekend for a top-of-the-table tussle. Arteta led the Gunners to the top through 17 games this season. But his team are just a point clear of Liverpool. While Aston Villa will also go top if they beat Sheffield United this Friday night.
Arsenal bounced back from the 1-0 defeat at Villa Park by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 last Sunday. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz secured the Gunners first Premier League win at home to the Seagulls since May 2021. Now, Arteta will bid to end their dire run at Anfield.

Liverpool have beaten Arsenal in seven of the Gunners last 10 top-flight trips to Anfield and drew three. Arsene Wenger oversaw the Emirates Stadium outfits last win away to the Reds in September 2012. But Arteta will boast a strong squad for Arsenals latest trip to Liverpool.
His injury problems might even ease on Merseyside as Arsenal strive to make things difficult for Liverpool and to top the Premier League table at Christmas. So, with that in mind, here is the latest injury situation facing Arteta before Arsenal visit Liverpool this Saturday evening
Jorginho injury latest
Photo by Rene Nijhuis/BSR Agency/Getty ImagesArteta said during his pre-game press conference on Friday that Jorginho is still a doubt for Arsenals trip to Liverpool. The 32-year-old sat out the Gunners 2-0 win at home to Brighton last weekend with a foot injury. It was the first Premier League match he missed this season.
Jorginhos absence was not a great loss for Arteta, having left the Italy international on their bench for the Gunners prior two top-flight matches. The 50-cap technician has only started in four of his 11 Premier League outings this term, too, and none since the November break.
Expected return: Liverpool (December 23)
Thomas Partey injury latest
Arsenal are still yet to see Partey resume group training at London Colney since the 30-year-old suffered a thigh injury in October. He picked up a blow ahead of their Champions League trip to Sevilla. But the midfielder is, now, showing the Gunners medical team positive signs.
Reports by Evening Standard claim Arsenal hope to have Partey back for their FA Cup third-round tie against Liverpool. The Ghanaian is, however, pushing to return sooner than their Emirates Stadium encounter as he bids to feature before flying to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Partey required a minor procedure for his thigh injury that ruled Arsenals anchor out for the rest of 2023. He is now concluding the rehabilitation process away from the rest of the first-team fold at London Colney. Arteta has confirmed that Partey is still currently training alone.
Partey is still finalising his rehab, Arteta noted at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of visiting Liverpool in the Premier League. He still hasnt trained with the team yet.
Expected return: Liverpool (January 7)
Mohamed Elneny injury latest
Arteta is hopeful of seeing Mohamed Elneny return from a hamstring injury for Arsenals FA Cup tie with Liverpool. The Evening Standard also notes that the Emirates Stadium meeting is a realistic date for his return after sustaining a minor-grade injury against PSV Eindhoven.
Elneny could also return to group training at London Colney before Arsenal visit Liverpool in the Premier League. But the Gunners are loath to risk the 31-year-old aggravating the issue by returning soon. He will also depart in January, like Partey, to feature at the 2024 AFCON.
Elneny will, hopefully, join us this afternoon to see how he feels about it, Arteta noted this Friday at his pre-match press conference for Arsenals top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool.
Expected return: Liverpool (January 7)
Takehiro Tomiyasu injury latest
Photo by Visionhaus/Getty ImagesAlong with Partey and Elneny, the Evening Standard claims that Arsenal hope to get Takehiro Tomiyasu back for the FA Cup clash with Liverpool. The 25-year-old has been sidelined over December due to a calf injury. He picked up the issue during the 2-1 win at home to Wolves.
Tomiyasu has been a valuable part of Artetas team this term with 19 appearances across all competitions. He has provided the Gunners with depth at left and right-back, and even once as a centre-half. But Tomiyasu will also leave in January to represent Japan at the Asian Cup.
Expected return: Liverpool (January 7)
Fabio Vieira injury latest
According to a different report from the Evening Standard, Arsenal expect to see Fabio Vieira make his return from a groin injury in mid-January. He is unlikely to recover in time for their FA Cup tie with Liverpool. So, the midfielder will use their winter break to finish his recovery.
Vieira has been sidelined since the start of December after suffering an injury whilst serving a three-match Premier League suspension. He also required surgery for the injury following a consultation with a specialist. Vieira received his red card for a foul in a 3-1 win over Burnley.
Expected return: Crystal Palace (January 20)
Jurrien Timber injury latest
Arsenal lost their star summer signing Jurrien Timber to an ACL injury on the opening day of the Premier League season in August. He suffered the blow 50 minutes into the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest. The 22-year-old would also require surgery to repair his damaged knee.
But football.london now reports that Timbers recovery has shown the ACL injury was not as severe as Arsenal feared. So, instead of missing his entire debut season, the defender is now in contention to potentially return between March and May without suffering any setbacks.
Expected return: March-May 2024
