The Longshoreman

It’s strange to be a member of a group (democrats) that is so feared and loathed by the other group (republicans) that they want to destroy us. It’s almost surreal. I just wish the republicans would awaken to their former glory. The only Republican that comes to mind is Lincoln and maybe Eisenhower, both of whom would today be considered “woke” Democrats.

We need conservative voices in power to remind us that there are a lot of people who hate and fear progress of any kind, even if it makes their own lives better. But do we really need extreme right wing voices in politics? Perhaps we just need to make a better case for progress so we can move conservatives more to the center or out of the conversation altogether.
But that would take an act of God. I think if we could somehow miraculously remove fear and hate as a weapon, there would be no conservative movement. The only way to remove hate and fear, which is always the result of insulation and willful ignorance, is through education. Education needs to be our number one goal. It’s our only way out of this quagmire. Educating everyone to recognize fear and hate mongering for what it really is and always has been: the easiest and most effective way to control the masses.
