"Trial and Error" can sometimes mean how to Fail your way to Success. The daily act of creating Art is full of failures and second guesses. For instance, the painting above is full of decisions made about the best way to represent a favorite family place. I have no idea if it was a success, but the reference material I used to create this painting was full of fond memories. Because I had to start somewhere, I used early strokes to define later ones. In other words, I started with the swirls of paint at the bottom to represent the reflections in the water but then got bogged down searching for a focal point. Most of us who apply ourselves at an easel become curious about the nature of the daily mystery before us. The blank canvas transforms as a result of both laws and whims. I hope by committing to experimentation in my art practice I will improve. When life and art are understood as a beautiful exercise exciting things can happen!
