Lay Your Artificial Grass & Prepare the Join
After prepping the base that your artificial grass will lay on, the next step in the installation process is to roll out the length of turf that you’ll need. Artificial grass typically comes in widths of 12 to 15 feet, and chances are you’ll be covering a larger surface than that which will require joining several pieces together. You will want to trim the edge of each piece of artificial turf to ensure that they will meet without overlapping. This can be done from the back using a utility knife but be careful not to cut the turf.
Apply Join Tape
There are several different ways to join two strips of artificial grass, but your best option is going to be a product made by the same company as your turf, as it will be made for that specific product. The most common option is to use a joining tape. To lay your tape, you’ll want to fold back the edges of the artificial grass and lay the joining tape underneath where the seam will be. Make sure that the edges of the turf don’t overlap and lay flush against one another.
Apply Glue & Dry
Once your joining tape has been laid, the next step in the process is to apply the adhesive. This glue will keep the edges of your artificial grass from lifting and will ensure that it lays seamlessly. Once you’ve laid the adhesive, you’ll then want to give it time to dry before nailing the artificial grass down with lawn spikes to keep it from shifting. Remember to move the blades of grass away from the nail when hammering, then brush them back over the nail to hide its placement and help it blend into the surrounding turf.
