Sanur has 5 km of beaches and offers a relaxed atmosphere that has not been ruined by over-tourism. These are the best hostels in Sanur, Bali.

Most of the tourist area is to be found to the east of the Jl Bypass Ngurah Rai that runs parallel to the coast through the entire city. We stayed in the north of the resort.

These are some of the best budget hostels in Sanur, according to user reviews. These are affiliate links to the Agoda web site. I found Agoda to be much better than booking.com in Southeast Asia. I receive a small amount for any bookings made through these links at no extra cost to you.

Griya Ayu Penginapan

Our accommodation, ‘Griya Ayu Penginapan’ (map), was to the west of Jl Bypass Ngurah Rai and located within what seemed to be a mostly residential area.

We had only paid approximately £9 per night for a double room with its own bathroom, so we were not expecting too much. However, we got a real surprise.

The entrance to the accommodation is stunning. It felt like discovering a temple in a forest as there is so many plants and trees hiding the carved stonework that can be found in the garden.

The property has a small but clean pool in the garden which we later took advantage of.

After check-in, we were shown to our room. The room was basic, but clean and we had a nice terrace on the balcony with table and chairs. Each morning we would discover a flask of hot tea waiting for us. Nice touch.

The WiFi worked great to say we were as far from the reception as could be. However, the most amazing thing about this place for us was that it had A BATH! A full-size one, too! Not only that, but it had unlimited hot water. We couldn’t believe it. It is not often we have had such luxury on our travels (twice in 8 months) so we certainly appreciated the opportunity to soak our tired muscles. We both took advantage of this opportunity every day!

This was a great place to stay. Despite being located outside the main tourist area, it is only a ten minute walk to the beach (though you do have to cross a busy road). It was a wonderful place to relax in. We could have stayed here much longer, which is not something you can always say about budget accommodation.

**********

We paid £27 for three nights in a double room with en-suite shower.
