We wanted somewhere that was just above our usual budget of around £10 per night. We saw images of hotels with baths and pools that were just above our budget so we decided to treat ourselves.
As it turned out, we booked a hotel called ‘Nuriani Restaurant & Rooms’ (map) that had neither a bath, nor a pool. However, it did have a balcony overlooking rice paddy fields and it seemed a little more upmarket than we had been used to so far in Indonesia.
The room itself was decent. There was a big tear in the net curtain but that didn’t bother us. The bed was massive and very comfortable. The balcony, as promised, overlooked a rice field. There was a walk-in shower and the WiFi worked (mostly). They hired good quality bikes for a reasonable price and the staff were super friendly. And the breakfasts were good.
Now, the negatives. We never had our towels changed once, despite room service making an effort to enter our room. They were so adamant to clean our room but all they did was empty the bin. They didn’t even leave toilet roll which left us without on two occasions. There were no toiletries provided in the hotel and the toilet roll was the lowest quality. The shower also took forever to warm up. On the last day, it just never happened.
I got the impression that they were trying to save money by cutting corners, which is a shame as the negatives were all things that could be easily rectified.
I am sure there are better and worse places to stay in Ubud. We enjoyed our stay here but there is definitely room for improvement.

We paid £55 for a four-night stay (double room with en-suite bathroom).
