In recent months, we’ve been getting requests of Thai Bridal makeup from our brides. Even with our 10 years of experience in Singapore’s wedding hair and makeup field, we are always on a quest of learning and improving our craft, considering the ever-changing makeup trends. So it was time to pack our makeup kits and fly to Bangkok, to learn from one of the best Thai Makeup Artists - Babara Beer Makeup

A beautiful thing about makeup is that it draws inspiration from different cultures and mixes styles together to create a new and unique look. The modern Thai Bridal makeup is said to draw influences from Korean and Western makeup styles.

For instance, drawing inspiration from the Koreans’ love for bling, Thai makeup uses shimmers to create an ethereal aura. On the other hand, they also focus on feathery brows that the West has popularised. Below is our Korean Makeup Artist, Rowan’s take on this look!

How do you identify Thai Makeup?

Hair & Makeup by Shirley

Thai makeup is all about

Glass skin

Shimmery eyeshadow

Contour

Feathery eyebrows.

That being said, how do we achieve this perfect makeup look?

What are the techniques used?

Foundation

To achieve glass skin, we apply the foundation layer by layer using the Barbara Beer cream and foundation brush. This flat brush allows us to spread the foundation thinly to build it up naturally, without looking cakey. Next, we use a beauty blender to buff out any streaks, creating a seamless finish.

Steps -

Apply the foundation layer by layer

Use a beauty blender to buff out the base

Eyeshadow

Surprisingly, only two colours are needed for eyeshadow - one dark colour and a shimmer. Using colour and texture to create dimension, this style pulls the focus into the eyes.

Steps -

Apply a dark shadow on the crease

For a bling effect, lightly apply shimmer across the whole eye

Among all the makeup brands, here are some of the Thai makeup artists’ picks:

For a glowy base, Charlotte Tilbury and Jung Sae Mol will do a good job at keeping a dewy finish. For eyes, Patrick Ta offers a great selection of complementary colours and shimmery eyeshadow that goes well with this makeup look!
