Big M Dumpling ???? gained its popularity over social media and many flock to the place just to have a taste on the signature dishes. Housed in Chariton Hotel Bukit Mertajam (next to AEON BM), Big M Dumpling occupies a space at the lobby area and offers a small Chinese menu featuring Noodle, Soup and Dumplings options. Due to lack of space, the menu is fairly limited to only a few choices but that does not stop regulars from patronizing the place. Fresh, quality food at wallet-friendly prices, comfortable dining area are some of the reasons why Big M Dumpling is never short of customers.
Pan Fried Pork Bao (Rm 6.40 for 2 pcs) and Pan Fried Prawn-Pork Bao (Rm 7.60 for 2 pcs)
Red Oil Wan Ton (Rm 7)
Pan Fried Dumplings- Chives and Pork (Rm 10 for 5 pcs)
Sze Chuan Hot and Sour Soup (Rm 7)
BBQ Pork Wan Ton Noodles (Rm 8.90)
Ginger Bell Mocktail (Rm 8.90)
We must sing our praises on their Pan Fried Pork Baos- freshly made on the spot with umami broth encased in a pillowy Bao skin with crispy bottom. The Pan Fried Pork Baos hit the spot right; the version with Prawns added were even better. Though there were no visible Prawns but we could taste the aroma and flavor of the crustacean in the meat filling. Due to tedious process, we were told that each customer is only limited to a maximum of 2 Pork Baos only. The Pan Fried Dumplings (or Gyoza) and Red Oil Wan Ton did not disappoint either; the former one was freshly cooked to order, we could taste the springiness and crispiness of the skin. Tummy filler- the Wan Ton Mee was a classic rendition with a generous amount of Pork Lards added. We were told by the proprietor that all Pork Lards are home-made, fresh and no Pork stench. The noodles were expertly cooked to the right texture, our only complain- we could not get enough and were hoping for a bigger portion.
