What gets measured gets done, and that’s why I looked for an affordable smart watch or fitness tracker when I made it my goal to hit 10,000 steps per day. Although counting my steps was the main reason I wanted to get myself a fitness band, I also wanted to score an affordable fitness watch with valuable features within a budget.
More Than Just a Step Tracker: Why I Like Huawei Band 8
I was glad to score the Huawei Band 8 on sale last 11.11, and here’s what I like about it:
Super lightweight with appropriate touchscreen size. At about 14 grams, the Huawei Band 8 feels like air compared to bulky fitness watches. It also features an appropriately sized touchscreen face, so there is no more squinting to see your steps because it shows your data, date, and time information in a compact display so you can see them at a glance.
It comes in different color options. Choose between Emerald Green, Sakura Pink, Midnight Black, or Vibrant Orange to match your style and personality. I chose Sakura Pink for a break from the usual black, but you can also change strap colors whenever you want.
It’s water resistant (but not deep waterproof). My previous fitness band was water-damaged, so I eagerly looked for water-resistant health bands that could withstand my lifestyle. Protecting my band from water is challenging as a relatively active person and a home-based mom. Huawei Band 8 features 50 m water resistance that can take on sweat and light water activities (swimming, washing the dishes, etc.). Still, it’s not completely waterproof–it’s not made to be worn for diving, submerged in hot water, or worn while showering. Note: wipe off sweat regularly to keep your band hygienic, and it must be rinsed with tap water (and wiped immediately) when used in the sea.
It tracks your sport or exercise. We have yet to meet a fitness band that accurately tracks our exercise or sport to the dot, but having a good idea when performing the activities can be a boost. Other than as step tracker, it’s a friendly work out tool, because you can choose up to 9 modes when exercising, and it will display your heart rate, movement, and calories burned in real-time. I have been using it on my daily home workouts, and knowing the level of intensity encourages me to maintain or improve my activities. HUAWEI TruSport claims to differentiate running from walking and automatically recognize 4 of the major swimming strokes. It also includes an AI running plan within its app that guides your steps or stride.
It measures sleep. According to research, sleep is one of the most overlooked elements in fitness. Huawei Band 8 measures your sleep with a holistic approach. Just keep it on while sleeping and choose sleep mode to ignore notifications and alerts.
It tracks SpO2, heart rate, and stress. The band automatically tracks your SpO2 level, heart rate, and even stress and will notify you immediately if it goes beyond the ideal range for better management.
It also includes womens health features. I use a different women’s health app, but Huawei Band 8 also features basic women’s health trackers such as the menstrual cycle.
It’s fast charging and has a long battery life. The Huawei Band 8 only takes 45 minutes to charge fully and can last up to 9-14 days, depending on your typical use. I have not drained mine to zero, but I charge it daily for a few minutes (mostly when I need to remove it) and keep it at a reasonable battery rate.
It works with IOS and is compatible with other help apps. Huawei Band 8’s fitness app connects with IOS and Android devices and connects seamlessly with other health apps you might have on your phone.
It connects easily for a smart life. You can receive push notifications and even set quick replies with its message and quick reply feature. You can also find your phone by pressing the alarm on your band.
Affordable Smart Watch
I have yet to maximize so many of the Huawei Band 8’s features, but I am definitely happy with my purchase. If you’re looking for an affordable smart watch to serve your goals, the Huawei Band 8 just might be the one for you. It’s only PhP 2,599, but do watch out for sales and collect discount vouchers when you shop in Lazada or Shopee!
