On our 2nd night at Japan, we travelled from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko area to stay for a night. I decided to do this to be able to visit the areas we want to see before the tourists arrive at 9 in the morning (which unfortunately we were not able to do because we went out late also haha).

I booked this guest house called Fujiyama Base at Booking.com. I like that it offers Free Cancellation and I was surprised to also know that they are okay to just pay your stay at the hotel. They did not even ask for our bank details in case I cancel our stay on the spot, they won’t get any amount from us.

I informed the host that we might arrived late (beyond 7pm) so she said that she will just leave the key in front of the house with a code. Unfortunately when we got the key, we can’t open the door of the unit. It was a sliding door and we really can’t open it. There were no other people in the area and it was a quiet place so we don’t know what to do. It was too cold already to stay a little longer outside.

I remember that they have a 2nd floor so I thought maybe there’s somebody to help us there so I decided to went up. Well, it’s a good thing that the owner was living there, I just realized it when I knocked and she smiled to us and went with me downstairs. She helped us open the door.

She doesn’t speak any English words so I needed to use my phone to use the google translate app.

The room has bunk beds, I thought I booked a tatami bed rooms but upon checking, the family room or bunk beds room was what I got. I liked that there’s a heater in the mattress which helped to feel relax even though I still did not sleep well just like our first night in a different hotel.

The next day, my son and I went out early to buy some breakfast at the nearby convenience store and we ate our food on this bar/kitchen area that is spacious enough for the 3 of us.

We then left our luggage at the room and the owner kept it until I returned to get it at noon.

Overall, it was a nice experience to stay here, but next time we visit I think I will look for another place nearer to Kawaguchiko station and with a view of Mt. Fuji from our room.
