The last month of the year is here and there’s a lot to look forward to in December 2023, as well as a cautionary note. Here are the top 5 astrological events to take note of, so you can use the astrology to better your own life.
1. New Moon – December 12, 2023
New Moon energy arrives mid-month. Traditionally, a New Moon is the perfect time for a fresh start. It’s the beginning of a new monthly cycle, go-getting, dynamic and offers you the chance to turn to a new page.
This New Moon falls at 20° Sagittarius, the star sign linked to travel, education, learning, beliefs, principles and truth. Sagittarius likes to be on a mission and have adventures.
This would be an ideal New Moon to fire some arrows high into the sky to see where they might land in 2024.
At its best, Sagittarius is the optimist, who believes in possibility and holds on to hope and faith. Sagittarius is the star sign that always considers the bigger picture and adopts a philosophical approach to life.
2. Mercury retrograde – December 13, 2023 to January 2, 2024
There is a proviso, however, as communication planet Mercury turns retrograde on December 13, the day after the New Moon. This is why you’re wise to use the New Moon in Sagittarius to plan ahead but not go all out to make things happen.
The turning point comes on January 2, 2024 when Mercury turns direct at 22° Sagittarius. This is when you can confidently move forward with your new ideas and book that holiday or course.
Mercury turns retrograde mid-month in earth sign Capricorn. This takes place at the exact same degree where Mercury turned direct on January 18, 2023, at 8° Capricorn. Therefore, these two dates may be linked, something coming full circle in your life.
Once Mercury’s retrograde, it’s not an ideal time for investments or making major decisions. Aim to get any Xmas shopping done before mid-month and take your time over the festive period.
Also, double-check everything if you’re travelling. Give yourself plenty of time to get from A to B. Enjoy the journey even if it takes you on a diversion.
Mercury retrograde is a positive period to review the year that’s gone, to stop and reconsider where you’re heading and why.
Retreat, rest, read – invoke all the re-words in your life. It would be a lovely time to dive back into your past and return to the place of your childhood.
3. Solstice. Sun enters Capricorn – December 22
The Sun enters Capricorn on December 22, the day of the Solstice. This heralds the change in season when the Sun ‘stands still’ in the sky, the literal meaning of sol-stice (Sun – stands still).
The Solstice is one of the four markers of the zodiac, when you reach the shortest day and longest night or longest day and shortest night, depending where you live. Here in the UK, the days are growing shorter and the nights longer.
One of my favourite quotes about the Solstice states, “something in us needs to know that at the end of the longest night there will be light”. This seems especially poignant at this time of year.
The Solstice heralds a beginning as it welcomes in a new season. Make sure to honour the Solstice and light a fire or burn candles.
This tradition is in honour of the heat and warmth of the Sun which brings us vitality, energy and life. The Sun and Moon have never failed to keep rising and setting daily, amidst all our upheavals on this planet.
4. Full Moon – December 27
The Full Moon on December 27 lights up the Cancer/Capricorn axis of the zodiac. The Moon is at home in Cancer, a positive symbol for visiting family and being with the ones you love. The Moon falls at 4° Cancer and this Full Moon favours comfort, caring and tending to your needs.
Full Moons can be a time of celebration when the light of the Moon is at its fullest, ripe and fertile. Things may come to culmination during this Full Moon, insights and knowingness may seep into your very being.
Be still during the Full Moon and listen to your heart. Know what will source and comfort you, as one year comes to a close and you prepare for a new year to begin.
5. Jupiter turns direct – December 31
This month’s Full Moon could swell into a huge opportunity of joy and happiness, as both the Sun and Moon connect in a positive aspect with lucky Jupiter.
Plus, a few days after the Full Moon, Jupiter switches direction at 5° Taurus on New Year’s Eve, December 31.
Jupiter is the biggest planet in the universe and the best planet in astrology. It represents opportunity and growth, expansion and freedom and is the planet of hope, trust and faith.
The big planet is linked to global connections, education, publishing, the law, religion, spirituality. It’s where you find meaning and purpose in the world. Jupiter encourages you to embrace life to the full.
Jupiter turns direct in earth sign Taurus after being retrograde for almost four months since September 4. This could bring forth new opportunities, as doors start to open as soon as 2024 gets underway.
It’s a positive time to put energy into your life, wherever you find Jupiter’s blessings. Plus, it’s a wonderful symbol for seeing out the old year and welcoming in the new year. If you have a chance to party or celebrate at the end of 2023, say yes.
