After our team had the most wonderful shoot at Barnsley Resort exploring all that the resort has to offer, we developed what we believe is the best itinerary to make your stay there the perfect mix of exciting and rejuvenating. Check it out!
Friday
7:30 pm Relax and dine in at the resort’s Rice House
You’ll probably be pretty tuckered out from a week’s worth of work, so why not take Friday to settle in and just have a great meal at the resort? For dinner, you’ll be majorly impressed by Barnsley Resort’s upscale dining option, Rice House. This gorgeous, 19th Century Farmhouse takes farm-to-table one step further with garden-to-table cuisine, incorporating local, fresh ingredients grown in Barnsley’s own gardens. You can also enjoy an after or before dinner cocktail at Dugan’s, the resort’s bar!
Saturday
10:00am Sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with all your brunch favorites
One of the best part of weekend getaways in our eyes is sleeping-in to your heart’s content in a perfectly white, fluffy hotel bed. So after you get plenty of ZZZ’s in a plush guestroom in the new Inn or a charming cottage suite, meander over to Woodlands Grill in the resort for a fabulous brunch cooked up by Executive Chef Nicolas Lebas. The newly renovated, airy Woodlands Grill at Barnsley Resort has a selection of delicious dishes like fried chicken and pimento cheese beignets that’ll knock your socks off. You’ll love the lush view of the golf course, as well as the cool, country-club vibe of the restaurant.
11:15am Pick one! Play a round of golf, go canoeing, or enjoy a round of sporting clays
Now that you’ve slept in a bit and satisfied your brunch-iest cravings, pick a fun activity to get moving. Barnsley Resort boasts more than 3,000 acres of natural beauty, and you should absolutely enjoy and explore them during your stay. There are so many outdoor activities to do it’s hard to fit it all in just one weekend, so you’ll probably have to pick just one or two (and come back for a return-stay!) Play a round of golf after a lesson at the Golf Performance Center on the resort’s award-winning Fazio Course. Or go for an idyllic, romantic canoe or kayak ride with your partner on their 10-acre lake (they’ll even lend you a fishing pole!). Big into the sporting lifestyle, or just want to try something new? Rent a shotgun and some ammunition for a round of sporting clays (it’s like golf with Italian-made Beretta shotguns, and you can also take a private lesson if it’s your first time. If none of these activities sound like your type of holiday, there’s only, like, a zillion more to choose from: disc golf, hiking, biking, an outdoor pool, horseback riding, UTV trail riding, and foraging lessons. Yup. I know. They have everything!
1:00pm Have a tasty lunch in the Beer Garden
Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy all your BBQ favorites like ,smoked turkey wings in Barnsley’s outdoor Beer Garden. They have a rotating menu of local craft beers, and we love the casual vibes there.
4:00pm Relax with a lavender-infused massage or fire & ice facial at the resort & spa
We always favor a deep-tissue massage to knead away our worries and troubles, but if you want something a little more relaxing and a little less hurts-so-good, the creative “Sticks & Stones” massage incorporates warm bamboo sticks, soothing lavender, and Himalayan salt stones for you to achieve ultimate bliss. In search of a youthful glow? The “Fire & Ice” facial will leave you glistening and refreshed! Antioxidant-rich raspberries and blueberries combined with a touch of Hungarian paprika will help you increase your blood circulation and leave you *glowing!*
7:00pm Pick one! Dine in, or hit the town!
The benefit of a resort holiday is that everything you want is right there so you can totally dine in once again at either Rice House or Woodlands Grill, BUT if you’re itching to go on a little adventure, the charming cities of Rome, Georgia and Cartersville, Georgia are just a short drive away from the resort. Go for a late dinner at Harvest Moon Cafe in Rome for fun twists on all your favorite Southern favorites and a wicked “pimina cheese.” Or, enjoy tasty bites like cajun popcorn, Kentucky bourbon salmon, and a “Bleu” grass burger with your live bluegrass show at Appalachian Grill in Cartersville!
9:00pm Enjoy s’mores by the fire and local brews in the Beer Garden
To end your night, wander the resort grounds and settle in by the campfire to enjoy some s’mores! Nothing will make you feel like you’ve escaped the hustle and bustle of Atlanta than this picture-perfect, tasty childhood treat. And enjoy a nightcap with another visit to the Beer Garden!
Sunday
10am Explore the gardens and the ruins
We saved the best for last! Grab a quick breakfast at Woodlands Grill or the Beer Garden then meander through the historic Manor House Ruins at the Resort. The other-wordly ruins are the remnants of an Italian villa built by Godfrey Barnsley for his wife Julia, and honestly, they’re breathtaking. Take a peek at life from another time, with the display of Barnsley family keepsakes and mementos.
1pm Visit the Tellus and Booth Museums in Cartersville
You’d be remiss if you don’t take a few extra hours to stop in at the Smithosonian-affiliated Tellus Science Museum and Booth Museums in Cartersville before heading home. The kid inside you will love the fossil gallery at the Tellus Museum, and the Booth Museum’s Native Hands Gallery, War Is Hell Gallery, and American West Gallery exhibits offer rich takes on American history. After all that culture, you can also meander through downtown for a bit of quaint boutique shopping before heading home.
5pm Head home!
Hit the road and head into your next week fully recharged and invigorated. We know you’ll be back again–maybe next time for a wedding or a business trip!
