A new year brings a new season and more opportunities to add to the trophy cabinet. Ahead of what promises to be an interesting year of soccer in America, Major League Soccer has released the full schedules for each of the 29 teams participating in 2024.
Among these is Atlanta United’s itinerary for the upcoming regular season which will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 24 and wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Cancel all other plans, we're fully booked ?
Our 2024 @MLS season schedule ??
Let’s take a look at some of the big matches that await the Five Stripes in 2024.
Season Opener at Columbus Crew, Feb. 24
Next season starts where the last one left off: Atlanta United open 2024 against the reigning champions, Columbus Crew. The Five Stripes tasted bitter defeat in the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs at the hands of the Black and Gold, and will be looking to start the season on the right foot with sweet revenge. The last time Atlanta United defeated Columbus on the road was a 3-2 win on Aug. 7, 2021.
Home Opener vs New England Revolution, Mar. 9
The Benz opens its doors for soccer two weeks after the season kicks off for the Five Stripes’ second match of the year against the Revs. Atlanta United’s last three points against New England came on Oct. 19, 2019. Atlanta has come very close to winning in recent seasons, including a 3-3 draw last season where the celebrations of a Miguel Berry game-winning golazo were cut short by Carles Gil’s equalizer just minutes later.
Decision Day at Orlando City SC, Oct. 19
Just like last year, Atlanta United will end the season on the road. But this won’t be just any road game, it’ll be a rivalry road game against the Purple Lions of Orlando. The Five Stripes were unable to beat the Lions in 2023, drawing 1-1 away and falling 2-1 at home. Orlando proved itself as a legitimate contender last season with a second-place finish in the Supporters’ Shield with 63 points.
The Five Stripes will have to bring their “A” game to end the season on a high note against their Florida rivals.
Western Conference foes
The Five Stripes will play six Western conference Opponents in the new year.
Game 10 of the season will see Atlanta host its twin club Minnesota United on May 4. This will be the first time the two sides meet since the 2019 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Final. Atlanta United defeated the Loons 2-1 that night to claim the second title in club history.
2023 MLS Cup Runner Up LAFC will come to town on May 25. The Five Stripes paid a visit to the California club last season while it defended its 2022 MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield titles and managed to escape with a scoreless draw. Atlanta will be trying to earn its first win against LAFC since Aug. 15, 2021.
The reigning US Open Cup Champions, Houston Dynamo will visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Jun. 15. In its last meeting with the Texas club, Atlanta United cruised to a 5-0 victory on July 17, 2019.
The Five Stripes will travel to CityPark for a match against MLS’ newest club, St. Louis CITY SC on Jun 22. This will be the first competitive game that Atlanta plays against the Missouri side which ended the 2023 regular season at the top of the Western Conference.
On the heels of a midweek road game against New England, Atlanta United will travel to face Real Salt Lake on Jul. 6. Last time out, the Five Stripes defeated the Claret and Cobalt 2-1 in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Jul. 13, 2022. They’ll aim to get a similar result next summer.
Atlanta United’s final Western Conference opponent of the regular season will be LA Galaxy. Los Galacticos will host the Five Stripes on Aug. 24 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Atlanta’s last visit to Carson saw it fall 2-0 on Jul. 24, 2022.
Inter Miami Messi CF Matches
Yeah, I had to highlight these matches because of one very special Argentine.
Atlanta United will play against the one and only Facundo Farias and Co. twice this season. The team will travel to DRV PNK Stadium on May 29 and host the Herons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sept. 18. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure to stock up on pizza.
