My wife has been raving about the food at Rumi’s Kitchen for years. The Sandy Springs location was a frequent work destination for her after hour celebrations and work dinners. She would usually bring some left overs back and I would rave about the rice and chicken.
However, she always gets a chicken dish. They are good, but there is beef and lamb on the menu!
Anyway, we were planning an evening at the Avalon in Alpharetta, so I booked a reservation at the Rumi’s Kitchen. Based on how difficult it was to get a reservation, I would say this is definitely one of the best restaurants at the Avalon.
Little did I know, but this amazing Persian cuisine restaurant has big ambitions. They opened a restaurant in Washington DC and soon to open one in Houston. I think the secret is out. The food is excellent.
Please read on for my review of Rumi’s Kitchen.
Rumi’s Kitchen Restaurant At The Avalon
The restaurant itself isn’t terribly large, however it was bustling. Many of shoppers were eagerly trying to get a table, but many of them would not endure the wait until 9:30.
Yes, this is a popular spot.
For good reason. The food is amazing.
Also, they have a really nice patio area. The sidewalk for shopping at the Avalon runs right in the middle of the generous sized patio.
There is a pergola with some fans turning. We actually decided to eat outdoors even though it was still 88 degrees for our 7:30 reservation. The fan definitely helped send a breeze through the humid air.
Inside is a large, circular bar and a decent sized dining area.
The kitchen is open concept.
The Food At Rumi’s Kitchen
Since I only ever had the chicken, I wanted to try a few things.
First, the hummus and pita bread. I am used to hummus at the grocery store. This was nothing like it. The texture was creamy and luxurious. I nearly filled up on it because I couldn’t stop myself from going back for more.
I ordered the chicken wings for an appetizer. They were marinated in a spicy lemon saffron sauce. They were grilled to perfection and had a pleasant char to them. Even though these are not traditional wings like we expect (buffalo and fried) I really think they may be deserving to be put on the best wings in Atlanta list.
My wife of course ordered chicken. She ordered the Chicken Barg. She substituted the rice. She loves the orange zest and pistachio rice. Unfortunately I couldn’t try the rice because I am allergic to pistachios. The chicken was delicious. Marinated and grilled to perfection.
I order the rack of lamb. I usually don’t eat lamb because no one in my house will eat lamb. So I save it for special occasions when eating out.
This rack of lamb did not dissapoint. The meat was so tender and had a nice char from the grill. Speaking of which, I am actually not sure what type of grill they are cooking on, but I really need to find out. Every piece of meat tastes amazing.
It was served with a lentil and raisin basmati rice. I only made it about halfway through the rice and brought the rest home. It was delicious, I just overdid the carbs on the hummus.
Rumi’s Kitchen in Avalon is locate at 7105 Avalon Blvd, Alpharetta, GA 30009
