The iconic New Year’s Eve countdown and peach drop — first it was on for this year. Then, the city of Atlanta called it off, due to lack of funding and insufficient security. Now, it’s back on — sort of.
Underground Atlanta will host its own indoor event on December 31, 2023 for New Year’s Eve. They are calling it Atlanta Peach Fest.
The event was pulled together in just three weeks.
It will take place inside Underground Atlanta’s event hall, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
It is said to be a “family-friendly” event, and you don’t have to be 21 to attend.
General admission tickets are $30 (plus fees) via Eventbrite.
(There are also more expensive VIP options)
The organizers say the event will include six immersive activation rooms, three DJs, 20 food and merchandise vendors, carnival games, a New Year’s resolution wall, live music, and curated art exhibits.
They also say there will be tight security, so expect to go thru a metal detector and other screening measures upon entry.
Updated on 12-8-23 — WSB-TV is reporting that City of Atlanta officials have told them the Peach Drop is canceled for a this New Year’s Eve.
From the Channel 2 Action News website:
“This year, the City dedicated our resources to celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and other local activities directly serving the community. While a worthy tradition in the past, the Peach Drop has not been an annual event since 2017. Each year is different, and we can always reevaluate next year,” a spokesperson for the mayor’s office said.
As an alternative event, you may be interested in the FREE New Year’s Eve Bash at The Battery — with an Early Innings Bash for families with young children.

The Peach Drop returns to Underground Atlanta, to ring in the New Year!
This tradition started in 1989, and was loosely based on the famous ball drop in Times Square, New York City, each New Year’s Eve. It quickly became an iconic New Year’s Eve event in Atlanta, and tens of thousands of people showed up each year to watch the 800-pound peach make its descent.
The Peach Drop went on hiatus in 2019, with the promise it would return bigger and better than ever in 2020. Well, that didn’t happen — thanks to you-know-what. But now the famous FREE event is back, and open to anyone who wants to celebrate. We have all the details, just below.

Peach Drop 2023/2024 — things to know
NOTE: The Peach Drop is not yet on the City of Atlanta events calendar, as of 11-15-23.

Presumed: The Peach Drop will be held at Underground Atlanta on Saturday, December 31, 2023.
Admission is FREE.
Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
Concerts start at 7:00 p.m.

Underground Atlanta is located at 50 Upper Alabama Street, in downtown Atlanta.
Entrances are located on Peachtree Street, Marietta Street, and MLK Drive.

Getting there
Many, many downtown streets will be closed for this event, and it would be an act of insanity to drive downtown on New Year’s Eve. Ride share is an option, but keep in mind that surge pricing will likely be in effect, and even a short ride could become an expensive option.
Your best bet is to drive to your nearest MARTA station (or take a ride share service to the station) and hop on a train. Keep in mind that MARTA parking lots at end-of-the-line stations can fill up very quickly.

There will be security officers on hand on train platforms on NYE, to help with passenger loading and unloading, to help prevent overcrowding.
TIP: Purchase a Breeze Card in advance if you don’t have one. If you do have a card, add a round trip fare online, so you don’t have to wait at a fare machine. Remember, trains run every 20 minutes or so. The MARTA ON THE GO app can put train schedules in your pocket!
Getting there is easy — no matter which direction you’re coming from, you’ll exit your train at Five Points Station.
