Santa Claus can’t compete with the American Dream Vette Club.

Where Santa comes up short is in the sleigh department. Jolly St. Nick shows up with a single red one, while this Snellville-based club arrived with two Torch Red Corvettes, both overflowing with gifts.

While we’re not sure of the official “Holiday Gift” capacity for the C6 and C7 Corvette, it was clear these two American Dream sleighs were maxed out.

So, on a chilly December morning, this local club set out for Atlanta, bearing gifts and spreading holiday cheer.

On the “good” list this year was the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). And while you might think toys would be at the top of CHOA’s requests, as we found out, their actual need is more nuanced.

We spoke with Bud Linton, club president, to learn more about how they became involved with this children’s hospital and his Snellville club.

A Giving Heart

Rod Worley – Editor – What prompted your club to focus its charitable holiday efforts on the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta?

Bud Linton – President of American Dream Vette Club – My granddaughter had a medical emergency earlier this year and was transported to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.

While visiting her there, we noticed the needs of families who had a child in long-term care. Because it’s a downtown hospital, it doesn’t have easy access to convenience stores.

For those families who want to be with their sick child, getting the basics like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and toiletries is challenging if they don’t have someone available to go out to get them.

Often, the family has other children with them that also have needs.

So, for her 16th birthday, my granddaughter put together a donation drive to try to meet those needs. From there, the involvement grew to include my wife, and eventually, members of our Corvette club got involved.

We’ve been collecting donations as a club for the past four months. So, each month, as we came together for our club meeting, members would bring in what they had gathered that month.

The difference between a traditional holiday toy drive and our support of Egleston Hospital is that our donations were less toy-based and more along the lines of basics to support a family.

Yes, there were toys, but there was a lot of toiletry and essential items.

Close-Knit Group

Rod Worley – Editor – While we’ve got you, can you tell us more about your club?

Bud Linton – President of American Dream Vette Club – Our club began in 1996, as most Corvette clubs do, by a small group of friends drawn together by the Corvette lifestyle.

Over the years, the tight bonds of friendship have kept this club going. While we’re not a large club, we are a close group that enjoys getting out and doing things together.

Besides our monthly dinner, our 40 or so members enjoy a wide variety of activities. We keep the activity calendar full of options, whether day trips, overnighters, or scenic cruises.

If you want to be a part of an active, close-knit group of Snellville-area Corvette enthusiasts, we look forward to meeting you.

Helping Those In Need

American Dream Vette Club of Snellville donated well over 200 items to Elgeston’s Children’s Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA). It was clear the importance of this project resonated with this compassionate group.

So much so that you could see the surprise and delight on the faces of the Elgeston volunteers by the sheer volume of donated items. They actually had to hurry inside to find a multi-level cart to take it all inside.

Supporting those in need and giving back to the local community have always been fundamental pillars of the Corvette lifestyle.

That’s why it warmed our hearts so much to watch those two red Corvette sleighs drive up and make a special delivery to CHOA.
