Bookshops & Bonedust, is the prequel to Legends & Lattes and takes us back to when Viv just started out with the mercenary company Rackam’s Ravens. She was eager to prove herself as they hunted a necromancer and ended up injured and stranded in the sleepy beach town of Murk.
As she recovers, she finds herself bored and makes the acquaintance of the local merchants, in particular a sweet baker and bookshop keeper. The tale that unfolds was deliciously delightful. I mean baked goods and books – two of my favorite things.
I loved the characters, and the danger Baldree weaved into the tale from a gnome to suspicious travelers. It was fun to see Viv open up to books, and we get the first hints of how she’ll end up a shopkeeper herself.
If this series is new to you, I recommend reading in the order of their release and beginning with Legends & Lattes. The audiobooks, narrated by the author, who is a professional narrator himself, are brilliant. I loved the voices, pacing and weaving of the tale.
If you need a last-minute gift idea, this series is perfect for anyone on your list! It’s fantasy, it’s cozy, there is adventure, romance, and wonderful characters.
